Well, I admit a certain fondness for .45 caliber. I have a distinct distaste for the 1911 in any caliber but .45 ACP or .45 Colt or even .45-70? YESSIR!

.45 Colt

Not pictured is a Navy Arms/Rossi .45/c rifle that I used in cowboy action shooting along with those Vaqueros.

Also not pictured is a Marlin Guide Gun, stainless steel, in .45-70 - feral hogs don't like that gun!!!! :D

I love them, too, but cannot afford more than three or four in my collection. All generation 3, all but one bought brand new when introduced. The other has had 50 rounds through it.

My first 45 long colt is a ruger vaquero with a 7 1/2” barrel in polished stainless. I spotted it one Saturday went home researched it. Bought it Sunday. I found out this model was discontinued. It was never fired with box and papers. I knew there was something special when I first seen it. No more 7 1/2” barrels, I guess they don’t use these for cowboy shooting. Plus I got my foot in the door for a 45Lc for just $289. I stole it.

steel,

That ain't fair, posting .45 photos to get me to thinking about another handgun purchase.

If one were operating off only a ballistic chart, the .45 Colt might appear pedestrian. If one were to operate off of reality, a standard .45 Colt is a devastating self-defense handgun. It was popular among revolver cops before the LE's blanket transition to semis.

Every shooter has to have at least one .45 caliber handgun.

ICS Yoda is all over it: a 1911-A1 ain't authentic unless it's chambered for The King: .45 ACP. Now you 9MM dudes, don't go gettin' all nutted up just 'cause I share Yoda's opinion.

I like all kinds of 45's too... ACP & LONG COLT...
I have everything from 5 shot ultra lite snubby Taurus to a Rossi reproduction 1892 levergun... single action Ruger Vaqueros... S&W625's... Sig 250's... many 1911's... with my middle aged eyes the bigger holes are easier to see...lol it is part of my reasonable accommodation made under my personal ADA code...

The whole idea of the .45 ACP was to duplicate .45 Colt ballistics in a semiauto pistol by using smokeless powder. The first factory prototypes of the .45 ACP round were made by cutting an extractor groove in the .45 Colt case. It was later shortened. The early .45 ACP rounds used a 200 grain bullet, later increased to 230 grains.

I'm a little late to the party with the .45 cartridge. I well understood the value of the 1911 frame with service in the Army. After getting out I had more interest in .38/357 and .44 special/.44 magnum, even 9mm than .45. I was never into SAA Colts because they do not fit my hand, preferring Ruger Super Blackhawks. I have had a number of .45acp semi auto pistols over the years and consider them "nice tools" to keep handy but do not enjoy shooting them nearly as much as I do .45acp S&W Revolvers. I got bit by the .45acp revolver bug just a few years ago and have tried to make up for time lost. I still enjoy shooting .44 special more because I find it a more versatile cartridge. Shooting large frame Pre-25 model Smiths is just about the most pleasant thing to do with a handgun I can think of on a nice day with nothing better to do than make some noise. I switched over to .45 auto rim and never looked back, I do appreciate the "speed-loader" effect that shooting with clips affords but prefer to shoot out of a cartridge box and take my time. I have no interest in getting into .45 Long Colt preferring to satisfy my "cowboy" shooting interest with a Colt Bisley in 44-40, that is something I do just for fun.

I love 45s and I have got it BAD.

I have WAY too many to have them all photographed.

I just finished converting a Marlin lever action to a take down rifle. I will try and snap a few photos tonight.

The first auto loader that I ever bought NEW was a Colt Gold Cup over 4 decades ago. I still own it though I can not find a photo of it.

It started a life long love of the 45ACP Cartridge

I am not going to go through listing all the ones that I have photos of.

No more 7 1/2” barrels, I guess they don’t use these for cowboy shooting. Plus I got my foot in the door for a 45Lc for just $289. I stole it.

If you ever watched a cowboy action match you would understand why a 7.5" barrel is unpopular. They have two problems:

1. They are quite difficult to draw from a holster when compared to a 5" or shorter barrel. Anyone can do it but there is a clock running and it takes longer to get that long barrel out and up on target.

2. A lot of the drawing and shooting in CAS happens in constructed areas made to simulate bars, corrals, barns, etc. A long barrel on your handgun runs the risk of hitting a prop - if you drop the gun you are disqualified from the stage if it is unloaded and DQed from the match if it is loaded.

Yeah, I like 'em! And you have a very nice collection of them, Sir! Let's see, I think I remember that I own a few. A couple revolvers and four semi autos. My old 1917 shoots as well or better than any of them and is by far the most fun to shoot! My 325 shoots well also, but it is a bit more noticeable when that happens! What's not to like?

I don't have a single pistol caliber 45. I do have one 45-70 1895 Marlin but that's only because I couldn't get a 444.

well, that's something to talk about.

Seems like you sure have a lot of "occasions" then for all those???

Nice collection though. Great old revolvers.

.45 happens to be among One of my favorite rounds. No family photos to post but I own:
2- 3rd gen.45 acp
2- 625’s
And a beautiful 25-2 ( my favorite )
Not a huge accumulation but I just got started :D

I have five in 45acp. 1950 (pre-26) 1955 (pre-25), 1917, 625-2 and (forgive me), a Colt 1917. I am a huge fan of the caliber in a revolver, and especially when using moon clips. I have posted pictures elsewhere on the forum, but can't access them now. My 1917's celebrate their 100th birthday this year, so join me in wishing them many more. It's really cool to shoot a piece of history.

I only have one 625-8 .45 ACP revolver, guess i'm going to have to get a couple more to start a collection.

Sorry I'm late to the party! I love 45's!

But first I must confess a few indiscretions. Circa 1980 I had a 25-2 (?) 6" in 45 Colt and a 25-5 (?) 4" also in 45 Colt both were in presentation cases, and like a dummy I sold them. Again, in the ignorance of my youth (anything before 50 is youth) I have sold off dozens of 1911's, and several 45-70 rifles. But in my favor, I gave a 1911 to each of my sons for their 21st birthday.

I still have a 1917 Brazilian, a 625 of 1989 and 4 1911's, and a Marlin Camp 45.

I have also kept, a pair of 4" Stainless Vaqueros, a pair of 5 1/2" blue Vaquero Bisleys, a 3" Thunderer, and a SAA clone, a Rossi 92 and a Marlin 1894 Cowboy Special all in 45 Colt.

I like bigger 45's also: 1895 Marlin Guide gun, 1886 Browning, Shiloh Sharps 1874 and an original 1873 Springfield (Trapdoor) Cavalry Carbine (pre-Little Big Horn!). All of these in 45-70

And last but not least, a pre 1905 Wesley-Richards under-lever double rifle in 450 3 1/4" Nitro Express (The elephants are so scared of this gun, there are none within 25 miles of my home!)

45 caliber, it may or may not be the perfect firearm caliber, but it definitely is a contender. When I was shooting SASS, if you had a low hit and a reactive steel plate with a 38, the plate usually wouldn't go down! But with a light loaded 45 Colt (200 grains @ 700 fps) a poor hit was still a down target! Ground Hogs have never taken a single step, after I hit them with any 45 pistol or rifle! One second they are here, the next they're in the bean field in the sky! When I had the S&W 25's in 45 Colt, my woods lost several 6 to 8 inch trees from being target stands!

I like the Winchester Silver Tip Hollow Point 225 45 Colt load for a SD round. But the best factory ammo for 45 Colt was the Federal 225 LSWC/HP with a hollow base. It didn't matter if your bore was .451, .452, .454, or some worn out hole, that ammo shot great!

. . .

Just realized this was posted in error. Not a .45

It might have been posted in error, but that Third Mod. .44 HE Target is quite an eye-catcher!

Curl

p.s. I'm assuming it's not an Outdoorsman or RM. I can see it's not a TL.
