Just got a
642 to compliment a m-38 in a Kramer t-shirt.
Whats the big deal about lock/no lock?

I got about three 332's that have been distributed to wife, daughter in law and son. We put Crimson trace grips on them and they are great to shoot.

I've heard it said (by the counter guy) that the 642 is S&W's best seller. I'm not sure this is true but I could believe it. I changed out the grips and disabled the lock on mine and it goes where I go.

I have a 3 J frames but only one hammerless. It is a 642-1 (no lock) just purchased a month ago. I have shot it a few times but I did not get it as a carry gun.

I did carry a Model 60 for a couple years back in the 70s so I do have a few holsters that will fit the 642. Both the 60 and 642 are fine guns and I would feel quite comfortable if they were on my belt, but I now normally carry a semi auto for CCW.

No SA in an EDC for me. Don't want the option, with its attendant risk of accidental discharge, and probably wouldn't have time to use it anyway in a DefCon One situation. The Centennials suit me to a T.

642 here. Pretty well worn finish wise. Might look at some way to "black" the backstrap. The finish is gone there anyway and my only complaint with the 642 is that the silver colored backstrap could be more visible during pocket carry than the black of a 442. But I don't think that's ever been an issue--never been called out on it, anyway.

I've got a couple, wonderful guns for their intended purpose. The 640 is the most carried out of these but the 6906 is with me 99% of the time. Joe

640CT here. A bit heavy, but I like the solid feel of stainless steel.

No, darn it.

Oh ok, here's my 642 (even though we all know what they look like).

I currently have boring old rubber boot grips, but I have some T grips sitting in my desk and just ordered factory checkered dymondwood grips.

Slipping my 442 into my pocket on the way to the dog park now... so I would agree with that!
