Do you Still have your first?

No but one of these days I may buy one back. It was a H&R Young America double action 7-shot .22 revolver. A lot of fun. My first rifle was a Remington single shot .22. Don't have it either but did buy a Remington 512T to reminisce with.

The first gun I bought was a Mossberg 500 18" in 1986. We were having burglar problems at my shop so I needed to spend a few nights inside in the dark. It was (thankfully) uneventful but word got around that we were coming and going at odd times with guns, things stopped...

It was bought a Hermans Sporting goods in NY. I could not buy it because I didnt have a NY drivers license, my friend bought it and later I bought it from him ;)

I think it was $235 out the door. I still have it it went unfired for along time as I was doing other things for many years.

Now the first guns I owned, were given to me when I was 11, a Stevens youth single shot 22, it was a dead on aim gun, also Stevens pump 22 "Gallery Gun", kinda heavy and needed a swift pump to work. A friend of the family was moving to Florida after retiring we were helping him pack up and get rid of stuff. He asked my dad if he could give these to me and my dad said yes. We were active in shooting at that time, what a gift to get! I spent hours cleaning, polishing them I knew them inside and out. I still have them, the man that gave them to me passed a few years later but I will never forget him.

Now one I dont have, when I was 12 dad gave me a Savage 20 gauge single shot shot gun. I shot it a few times but things had changed just before I received it (parents separated later divorced) Shooting fell to the side shortly after receiving it. Anyhow it had a proud place on my rifle rack on the wall of my room with the above 22s. Fast forward ten years and my same friend in the Mossberg story asks to borrow it to go on a camping trip. I let him take it and a Remington bolt action 22 we had. I never got them back, despite dropping a few hints over the years. Later my friend passed away and I still kinda wanted the guns back. However after the funeral we were telling stories and one came up about "his shot gun and rifle". I realized that they were now embedded in to his families history and folklore. They were no longer mine, they found a new home and family.

Still have the first gun I ever bought, a Marlin 882 bolt action .22 WMR. Have considered selling it a few times as I've been having feeding/extraction issues with it the last few times I've taken it out. Guess I need to make an appointment to have a gunsmith take a look at it.

I too have the first gun I ever bought and owned, 1982. (along with 2nd, 3rd, 4th... I don't sell too often.)
It is a Ruger MkII 5.5" Target Bull.

do i have the first firearm i purchased for myself? you betcha!!

S&W model 686-4PP; product code 104272.

Back in the early 60's I read a lot of Jack O'Conner stories and naturally wanted a .270 so for my first money-bought gun, I selected one at the local gunsmith's shop ... a Husquvarna sporter with a Schnabel for-end, for $125. Still have her today.

I first bought a Remington Nylon 66 Apache Black .22 LR and I still have it today (and still use it...great squirrel gun). I also have my first S&W, a 27-3 I bought at the LGS (named "Boots and Guns") brand new for about $250.00 in 1985 for my first police academy.

A Colt Cobra purchased as my first off-duty gun in 1968 for $85 new. I still have it and carry it from time-to-time, but my 442 is carried most often.

I still have the first gun I ever bought, a US Model 1863 Springfield I bought in college in 1976. What I wish is that I still had the first Thompson M1A1 I ever bought, that was one I should not have sold.

This has been a awesome thread so far. Its a lot of fun reading all the stores. How times have changed.

You bet I still have it. Winchester Mod. 94 30-30. I bought it new in 1978. Just hired into GM and had a little extra cash. I bought it on Sunday and got laid off on Thursday. Oh well. deer season was opening within a week, so I went up north to Petoskey MI to hunt at my grandmothers house. I also have my Model 66-1, I bought new in 1980.

I don't have the 1st gun I ever bought. In 1962 I bought a used Chiefs Special snub nose from a fireman and the timing was off on the gun and I didn't know enough about the internals at the time so I traded it off and I do still have the gun I traded for.
I naturally replaced the Chiefs Special also.

My first purchased gun was a brand new model 28 with a 6" bbl. The gunshop sold me a box of 38 spl 158 gr lead rn's. I was so disappointed when it wouldn't shoot through an engine block. :o
I kept it for a couple of years and then traded it for a model 19. I still have the 19.

(along with 2nd, 3rd, 4th... I don't sell too often.)

I know exactly what you mean! I have never sold a gun. I've given a few away, lost a couple, and had a couple stolen.
My second gun purchased by me, an old photo shown below, was bought new in April, 1962, (almost five years between my first and second new revolver purchases - the longest time span since then :D:D).
This old shooter has been with me almost 50 years.
teesur.

Yep. A Ruger 10/22, straw purchased by my Dad with my paper route money at Frank's Sport Shop in Decatur, Illinois in 1971. I think it was 60 bucks.

I still shoot it all the time. Its my main prairie dog gun.

Yes I still have mine, but it was a RIA 1911 and it was only 3 years ago... So let me check back in about 15-20 years!

I forgot to mention I bought my H&R .22 Young American off a friend for 15 bucks when I was about 14. Funny nobody seemed to mind and we used to blow off boxes and boxes of .22 shorts in the woods of north Jersey. I think today that would earn a lengthy stay in a warm jail cell.

Yes, a #5 MKI Enfield "jungle carbine" .303 BR. Bought from a ad in "American Rifleman" magazine in 1962. No background check, no waiting period, $19.95

As soon as I was able, a Colt Python with a six inch barrel, bright stainless finish. The only revolver I own and I still love it almost as much as one of my kids. OK, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but it is a beauty :D
