Do you Still have your first?

Still have the first gun I bought. A Remington 1100 20ga. can't remember if I was 14 or 15 but it was one of the first 20 ga 1100s put out. Had to have it worked on by the Remington authorized GS because the 12 ga springs they were using were too strong for 20 field loads. Gave a whole $75.00 for it. (one of those, guy goes in steel mill commissary, gets stuff for so much a paycheck and goes out the door and sells it for quick cash deals) Most of 50 years and I still love that gun.

I still have the first gun Santa gave me when I was 10, a Model 66 Ithaca .410. I have the "first" gun my Dad gave me when I turned 18, a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12 gauge. I also still have the first gun I bought, a S&W Model 1500 .243 from a former roommate.

I'm way more of a buyer than a seller, but I have upgraded a couple times. Had lapses of judgment, but got rid of them. The only regrets I've had was when a Ruger Security Six was stolen and when I sold a different Remington 870 I only bought because someone I knew needed the money.

The 1st one I bought ''new' with my own money is a Ruger Single Six.
I traded for another later, I have 1 in my safe, my son has the other.
1st centerfire rifle is a Marlin 30-30, it's also in the safe.
These I will keep.

Good post!
Made we wonder where I stashed old #1, so I went looking, found her standing in the corner of my ammo closet, gathering dust. Like one of the first posters, I bought a Model 67 Winchester single-shot .22LR. Longish 27" barrel and iron sights, with the "Artillery" bolt that you have to pull back to cock the rifle. Even then, they had a safety on it too. Only gun I ever had that I was able to remember the Serial number. This was my great-uncles Hog gun. One shot near the ear, one hog for the table. That was the easy part:eek:
Paid $1 to Uncle for the rifle when I turned 13. It came with Weaver scope bases, and it was D&T, but no scope. The stock was trashed, so this was my 1st attempt at a refinish, when I was 13 years young. I can still see where I put too much "filler" in the pores that were damaged, but I won't ever change it. She don't stand up to my Anschutz silhouette rifle, but she sure has better memories, and she cost a heck of a lot less:D
Dad wouldn't let me have what I really wanted, a new Nylon 66 from the dime-store. Said he wasn't going to have me out shooting willy-nilly, and besides, the Nylon 66 cost $45 and Uncle made me a deal for $1. Finally got a new-in-box Nylon 66, 38 years later. Only cost me $500 to pay homage to the feelings of nostalgia, but man, does that Nylon gun shoot! The Old Man was a tightwad, so he must have been worried about the cost of .22 ammo. Best I can remember, it was about the price of a school lunch then, maybe 75 cents. Still, the Winnie was a great learning tool. I just hope one of my relatives will want to keep it around and shoot it when I get dirt thrown in my face...
Thanks for bringing back the memories!

Yep, wife got a gun first, M36 in nickel, me second with a M36 blued, luckily that was only 4 years ago. Still have both and both carry them.

I do and I bought it new in 1978 for, IIRC, $360 when I was 16 years old. The local dealer had them once in a great while but refused to mark them up as most others were back then. I (my older brother...) layed it away while I paid it down working at a produce market. A boxed new 8 3/8" nickel M29-2. Some years later I had the barrel cut to 5". Some years later I noted a small "piece" of metal missing about midway down the bore. I called the factory and they advised to send it in. I did and received a call back advising that the barrel was, in fact, an issue so a replacement was offered but the only 5" they had was the lugged barrel with interchangeable sights. I said, "OK". It may well be the only "factory" 5" lugged nickle M29-2?

My first firearm was from my parents when I was 16, a Remington 522 (I think) bolt action .22 LR and still have it. The first I purchased was a Ruger Super Bearcat and I still have it as well.

Two I do not have are my first centerfire revolver, a Ruger Security Six nor my first S&W a model 10 I traded long ago.

Yes I do and it was a New Model Blackhawk .357 6 1/2" barrel in stainless steel! First real pistol that I could afford to buy. I bought it to carry as a backup while hunting, my second handgun purchase was a Smith Chiefs Special Model 37 still have that one as well. My first CCW!
I've only ever sold two guns out of my collection and regret it to this day, but I'll never sell my firsts!

Regards,
LnL ;)

Well I bought my first rifle from my grandfather when I was 13, a mauser 8mm sporter, My second rifle was a model 70 30-06, this was in 1971, I pain $125 for it. My first handgun was a 22lr high standard citaion that I bought the day I turned 21 from a sporting goods store.
And yes, I still own all of them.
I had other guns dad had given me but these were the ones I bought with my own hard earned money.
I did sell christmas cards in grade school and redeemed for a mossberg 410 shotgun, that I traded for my first motorcycle.

Lol yes I still have my Glock 19c that I purchased many years ago, can't make myself get rid of it!

I traded the first pistol I ever bought, a Walther P.1 purchased from Ace Hardware in Flagstaff for $113, for a 2" S&W Model 60. That mostly cured me of selling or trading guns, as I made that trade in 1977, just before the DM spiked against the dollar, giving me the worlds only $800 Model 60. I do, on the other hand, have the first S&W I bought, a 4" Highway Patrolman.

1st rifle, shotgun and handgun that I purchased during my time in the Army are still in my safe. Rifle Ruger 1B 257 Roberts,Shotgun very early blued 20 gauge Ruger Red Label and Handgun S&W Model 57-1

Mine was a Remington, single shot, bolt action .22 rifle. It was and is a tack driver with iron sights. I gave it to my son when he was old enough to learn to shoot and now his two sons have learned to shoot using it. I have taught my daughter's two sons to shoot with it when they visited here (my son and his boys live here on the farm with us). That little rifle has earned it's keep and my son and grandsons take very good care of it. I do not miss it one bit.

Have them all still: BB gun i bought in 1976 at age 11; Lew Horton 686 2 1/2" was first revolver; 4516-1 first semiautomatic and Nylon 66 Apache Black was the first rifle.

Yep, I still have. Bought new in 1977, no telling how many thousands of rounds I put thru it. Now retired, it's had a good life.

great thread!!!

In 1983 I bought a Federal Ordinance M1 Carbine w/ a modern folding stock (like an AK's) & ventilated metal handguard (got it at a small gun shop in Killeen while I was assigned to Fort Hood...bought it on lay-away...told the guy I wanted a military rifle w/ a pistol grip but didn't have a lot to spend...think I paid around $115 or $120 for it)....it's a great shooter & I still got it!!!

I think it was a good steer from the store keeper...well, I then bought some surplus 30 rounders for $4 or $5 a piece and taped three of them together (w/ electrical tape and some liquid nails or similar adhessive) and had a blast!!

I could hit a 12 oz can at 100 yards w/ the open sights on it when I would plink with a 15 round magazine in it...it's a great rifle but admittedly I haven't shot it in years...

Ironically, Federal Ordinance made the thing in California!!! It was put together w/ surplus WWII carbine parts and a few new parts (like the modern folding stock)...it has a Standard Products receiver, and the dreaded bayonet lug!!!! I even bought a like new Camillus WWII era bayonet for it in Orange County California at an Army/Navy store in 1986 after I discharged from my 3 yr hitch, and I used to shoot it out in the desert in Cali...how times have changed...:(

I will be sure to let my grandkids shoot it one day...it's a blast from the past from yester-year...

Must have been around '62 or '63, I would be around 12 years old, had been shooting a single shot remington .22 my dad had given me but I really wanted a shotgun. Worked a paper route, bucked hay and gathered eggs and bought a Stevens bolt action 20 ga. Must have stepped up and paid nearly $25 for that shotgun! No, I don't have it anymore.
