Do you talk to your dog?

I have always talked to my dogs. I learned that you have to be careful. I would get angry at something inane on the TV and start cussing at the tube, then look around and see the dog, looking sad with her head down. Bless her heart, she thought I was fussing at her. I'd love her and calm her down, and reassure her. That's when I knew I was crazy

Does Anyone Remeber This...

When in the news the headlines read of those whose hearts are filled with greed...and righty all that's wrong and plead it's Underdog, Underdog...fear of lightning bar of thunder, righting all who rob or plunder, Underdog...who hoo hoo Underdog, Underdog!!

Yes I talk to my dog and sing to her as she cocks her head desperately hanging on every word.

... so I just jabber away about whatever. He seems to appreciate it. The other day I was explaining how to make coffee to him and I noticed my wife looking at me like I was nuts. Not the first time, by the way.

I did the same with my kids - I never baby talked them, but always just talked to them like they were adults. They turned out ok.

I did the same thing with the same results. Talking down to kids never made sense to me, and why wouldn't you communicate with your dog? One of the great small pleasures (blessings) in life. :)

I've got a Border Collie. Very intelligent. Supposed to be one of the smartest breeds, with an amazing memory and the ability to differentiate between hundreds of items by NAME.

Mine is pretty smart, but she does move her lips when she reads the paper.

Well, my dog's smarter than your dog. ;)

:D:D

Sorry. I couldn't resist. It was the perfect setup.

I think there is a substantial amount of recent research that indicates that animals understand verbal communication, and specific words, far more than we think.

So this would imply that they must have a higher order of intelligence than we previously thought.

And a developed intelligence would lead you to assume that they had.........
Souls?

Of course, as dog (and cat) owners, we already knew this.

Maybe she's just trying to tune out your singing? :D I can't sing so don't even try to.

talk to my GSD all the time .. she lays with her head on my foot while I play on the computer .. but I'm retired home alone during the day and Eko and I have had some very interesting conversations these past 2 years .. she's only 2 .. her views are quite interesting .. :)

My Border Collie was pretty smart, the 2 words she never seemed to understand were "Come" and "No". When you told her "No" she would turn her head and not make eye contact with you, just like a stubborn kid.
