Do you talk to your dog?

I take my Kaitlyn to work with me every day and I talk to her all of the time. She sleeps with me every night and is sitting on the kitchen chair next to me as I sit here keying on my laptop. When I am done and head to the living room to watch my nightly allotment of TV, she will follow me and join me on the couch.

Do they understand us, I am not sure. The other day she told me she was thirsty and I told her to go get a drink for herself. I'll let you be the judge.

Constantly, I talk to Ziva and she listens. Seems to know when I need a sympathetic ear and is always quick to rest her head on my lap or lean in for a head scratch. I've said it before but she has been the best pooch in a life time of having dogs.

The dog is (or should be) Family. We talk to our family, don't we?

My dogs have always been very interested in what I say. We only have one now, but she really, really watches my lips as I talk and tries to understand.

I have recently gotten a torn retina and my eye looks horrid and bloodshot from the emergency surgery performed in the exam room last Thursay evening (another long story, another time).

P.C. immediately saw the eye and began trying to get me to tell her what had happened. She sat there and listened to every word.

Now I'm lying on my right side 45 minutes out of every hour as a result of this, and she is right there watching to see if the eye changes.

We have great conversations, mostly me talking, I'll admit, but she is Family, so we talk.

I even talk to my wife (sometimes).

Of course we talk to our dogs. Doesn't everyone? I'm amazed at how many words and phrases our three little mutts seem to understand. We have three little mixed breed chorkie / mini pinscher mixes. They are brother and sister and one of their offspring (didn't get them fixed quick enough when they were pups). I call them "pinschyorkahuahuas" for laughs if any one asks what breed they are.

Being mixed breeds they are all very different in appearance. You'd swear the older female was a yorkie. The male and the daughter just look like mixed breed terriers as do the other offspring from the litter now living elsewhere.

I talk to my dogs all the time, usually about whatever is going on at the moment in the news or around the house or at work. You just can't talk to Finn first thing in the morning when he's catching up on the news, he takes that very seriously -

And if he's not interested in what you have to say, this is the look you get-

I have three Brittany spaniels. Around home i talk to them all the time. They are pets at home.
When we are out hunting, I rarely vocalize to them. I have found that the less I talk to them, the better they hunt.

Absolutely! I have brother and sister AKC Chocolate Labs. They are like my children, and we talk all the time. My children will sit with them and read to them, and the dogs sit there and enjoy it. In many respects, they communicate better than humans!

Do I talk to my dog? Are you kidding? I talk to everyone's dogs! Sometimes I even talk to their owners.

I keep Milk-Bones in the car in case I happen upon a hungry dog. You never know when you might encounter a dog that has missed a couple of meals.

Nice. I talk to my three dogs, even my elderly deaf pug, my two cats and my two turtles.

The neighbor's dog has strange taste in guns, and keeps telling me to buy a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 for some reason....

You know, that's about the same thing I told my wife...when I bought my 20ga XE grade Fox double {$25K} one of our dogs kept saying, "don't worry about her...just do it!!!" "You know you only go around once, you cant take it with you!!"

Well, I got the shotgun...but the rest aint so good.

Anybody have a dog....

Anybody have a dog that does whatever you tell her to?

Heidi was a special dog. All three of our present dogs understand just as well, but they don't do anything I ask them to.:(

R.I.P. Heidi, you wonderful, beautiful doggie that I loved to pieces. The end was hard, but I hope at least you knew that without question. I think you did, but I want to be sure.

We have a smart yellow lab named Mia by my wife.

Why yes I talk to her like all my other dogs.

Ha Ha Mia someone wants to know if I talk to you.

What do you want to say?

OK she says she is tired of reminding me she doesn't text or email, if you want to know you'll have to come by.

Do I talk to my dogs? Yes, emphatically, YES! My collie boy comes traipsing onto the bed after his breakfast so I can make inquiries as to his enjoyment of it and did it suit him? My little collie girl sort of purrs to me, either when she wants attention, or while she's getting it. Of course I talk to her as well. They are both jealous dogs, constantly vying for our affection and attention, which I do my best to lavish on them.
On a somewhat different level, if I make it to where they are when I die, I hope we can all talk together, literally... and I mean that with all of my very heart and soul, what of it there may be...

I told my wife about this thread. And then told her of course I talk to the dog.I might want to have a intelligent conversation .My wife lmmediately told me I was number one with the universal hand signal.I think Christmas just got more expensive.lol
