Ever since I started carrying a few years back I find myself paying much more attention to people around me. This has resulted in me thinking to myself: 'Yep, that guy is carrying' when I see someone that is wearing certain clothes in certain ways. I am amazed at the number of people that I think carry, I used to never give it a thought.
Are the rest of you paying attention to things like this and I am I likely being made by others when I wear shorts with a t-shirt and a buttondown shirt untucked? I think the Hawaiian shirt can be a dead giveaway, especially if there is a t-shirt worn under it.

Yeah I try to make people. One time at the store a guy who looked to be in his fifties was giving me the once over (yeah I was wearing a hawaiian shirt and I think that's what tipped him off). I don't know if he saw my piece, but he was carrying a large auto at 3:30. My hunch was that he was a cop. Seeing as we were both grocery shopping and with our wives that was the end of that.

Sure do... Mainly because you pay attention more when carrying a pistol. My wife and I have contests on "Who is carrying?"

I can make many peops who are toting.

I can i.d. every dude with a toupee...far easier, for that matter.

Be safe.

I was dressing like that long before I ever carried :D;)

Only if they appear (dress) out of the ordinary and have the "gang-banger" look....I watch their hands until they are out of my distance...

Nobody EVER picks me out.

I was in a gunshop yesterday, wearing jeans, sneakers and a light blue polo shirt that was a little clingy because it had a touch of spandex. I was also wearing my bra knife on my left and my KelTec P3AT in a Bianchi Pro 100 IWB on my right. We looked at some guns and the shop owner was very busy with a young blonde woman who had a contingent of "helpful" males and who was trying to stuff a Glock 26 into a new ankle holster, and he was also helping a middle-aged woman in conservative clothing who was buying a Kahr.

I ended up on the counter end near the older woman, who was discussing carry options with the shop owner. The woman is a college teacher and dresses in slacks, skirts, etc. He was pushing a belt holster or ankle carry option, which was never going to work for her. I said to her, "This is how I do it" and she was shocked when I lifted the hem of my shirt to show her the gun and the knife. I told her how this set-up works with any type of slacks and work outfits. I even showed her how I can clip the IWB onto the side of my bra, if I had to. I let her try on my holster and then she turned to the shop owner and said, "I want what SHE has!"

When she put on her Kahr in the (I think it was a Galco) IWB on her slacks and covered it with her blouse, I could just barely make out the clip and said so. She adjusted her shirt and the clip outline disappeared. She bought that set-up.

We're everywhere. You'll never pick us out. ;)

Always, just part of good SA for me, and I've done it long before I ever started to carry.

I only notice when the person isn't good at concealing. I don't go out of my way to try to see who is and who isn't. I have noticed some people with obvious gun bulges and a fanny pack once.

I know I don't get made when I only carry the 642 appendix IWB. My future brother in law has asked me a few times why I wasn't carrying when I really was. He's learned now you can't see it. Same with my father. Heck.. my girlfriend doesn't even know if I have it or not until I remove it.

I think way too much is made by us gun people on this whole "getting made" deal. Some simple observation of human behavior while out and about will tell you that the vast majority of the population needs to be literally hit upside the head to notice much of anything.

As gun carriers we are of course more in tune with potential clues that a person may be carrying and I notice them occasionally as part of standard situational awareness, but I don't visually pat everyone down and perform a virtual analysis of whether they may be carrying or not.

Similarly, I simply don't care if someone 'makes me' as carrying a gun once in awhile. I just don't care if people think my belt/fanny pack/vest/untucked shirt/shorts/cargo pants, or if I pat my front pocket, side, or ass when I get out of the truck "screams gun" as some gun owners like to say.

If I were to assume that everyone here in the pacific northwest who had a thick belt/fanny pack/vest/shorts/cargo pants/untucked shirt was carrying a gun then that would mean 75% or better of the population was armed which of course is just not so. It would be a lot less work for me to spot the people who were not carrying. :)

I agree with you Wayne. I don't care if I am "made", I just find it kind of interesting to pay attention to others that might carry.

Please don't try to make me while wearing my smart carry, we'll both feel uncomfortable. Besides, it's a package deal.

From Barbs description, I'm definately hanging out in the wrong stores. During a recent license check, I got made for the 2nd time in 40+ years. While streching to get my wallet out, the butt of my backup slid into sight, requiring my CWP to go with the owners card & DL.
