Why a tiny gun?

Unless you stick to CNN, MSNBC etc for your news, there are multiple daily reports from all over the country of thugs attacking people in groups, pulling people out of cars etc. It's all over Youtube, it's a new sport.
Judging things by the "good ole" days is not valid. You don't have to be a beagle to smell things have changed in this country, it's not 1990. Attempting to use the past and applying it to a scenario that is no longer true is myopic. Things are going downhill right now, I hope it changes.

Thankfully things have changed since 1990; the murder rate is much lower than 1990 and is approaching historic lows. A while back there was a news special that examined how people could perceive historic high crime when it was in fact near historic lows. Their conclusion was that the problem was exactly what you used as the basis for your belief; "multiple daily reports from all over the country". They found that even though crime was down, the growth of the 24 hour news cycle had resulted in an 800% increase in the reporting of violent crime over the last few decades.

I really don't think that you or many of your brethern do.

Let's use your example of a gang pulling you out of your car and beating you. It hasn't happened in my town but maybe it has in yours. So you pull out your Roscoe and pop one or two of them. One of two things will happen at this point. They will all back off crying, "We didn't mean no harm!" or they will swarm you and still beat the **** out of you or one of the gang will respond to your shooting and shoot you. Your 51 rounds will have done you no good.
The world is full of ifs and buts.
A gang tries to pull me from a vehicle and I will use my right foot as readily as I will use my hand gun.
If I get pulled out I will empty gun A and reach for gun B.
Between the 2 without reloading that is 22 rounds.
With an autoloader the most likely cause of a malfunction is a magazine.
I cant see carrying an autoloader without a back up mag.
Murphy is tough, if something CAN go wrong... bet that it will when you least need it to.
In that case 1 gun is none... 2 guns is one.
I wear a seatbelt not because I expect to be in an accident, but in case I am.
And yes, I have had cars with 5 point harness.
Of course I also used it on the track.
If you dont want to carry, or prefer to carry something different than others... that is your choice and Right.
You always see people on the news saying "This sort of thing NEVER happens here."
Criminals are venturing into quiet areas that dont have much crime... looking for easy pickings.
With my job, I get sent to areas after events such as natural disasters.
I was in NO after Katrina. I also had 2 hand guns and a shotgun with me.
I had to wait for a gun fight to stop before taking care of one of my sites.
No, I was not involved in it.
Some of us see the bad side of the country, some live there, some work there, some just pass thru.
Dont sit there and cast some kind of judgement over something you dont have experience with or refuse to see the reality of.
My handguns are to get me to my long guns.
My long guns are to get me to my family.
Live your life as you see fit.
The rest of us are doing the same.

Touchy subject with some.

If one wants to assign the responsibility for one's safety to God, luck or "I live in a good area", go for it. That will put you in the majority not only here in the US but the rest of the world.

To me and those like me that is the height of irresponsibility. Except for those who can not be armed for whatever circumstances. Metal detectors happen. :)

But the lives and well being of myself and those important to me are too fragile to pretend that "nothing will happen". Death and destruction are the work of a moment and can and do visit everywhere.

Even a tiny gun is better than none. But it's funny how very, very few people who have actually been in a gun fight walk around with a mouse gun for a primary unless forced into it.

Experience is a harsh teacher and some people can learn from the experiences of others, they don't have to pee on the electric fence themselves to know it's a poor plan.

You betcha! You must be a 45 guy. :D

Yes, for a long time, however I'm not really committed to one caliber. Back when the wonder nines were first becoming popular I had a t-shirt made which I wore only to gunshows. The front had a 1911A 1 and said "Cocked and Locked since 1911". On the back it said "9mm Parabellum, the choice of defeated armies since 1902". ;-D.

Now half the time I carry a 380 and until recently that other half was split between 9x18, 32 Long and 38 Special. Now I have a 40 S&W that I'm working into my primary carry. Just haven't found a good IWB holster for it yet but anytime I'm wearing a suit, sport coat or loose shirt I've been carrying that with an OWB holster.

If an unruly group ever tries to pull me from a vehicle I'm hoping my wife is with me. She can provide suppressive fire while I concentrate on driving. Penny usually carries a CZ82 with a spare mag.
