What's the date on the fired casing envelope? These are brand new guns, shouldn't be more than a few months old. Bud's probably sells more guns than any other store in the world, so I'm sure nothing lasts too long in their inventory.

642-1 dob

hi s&w fans,
i did look at the fired case, said 4/12/11, looks like the 642-1 was made till 2006, then the 641-2 came out. so they must not be doing things in any kind of order......s&w dan

You really can't date by the engineering dash codes. Smith & Wesson has a habit of building guns "out of order" to keep us all on our toes. :)

642-1 is without lock, 642-2 is with lock. They're making no-lock guns again, which explains why yours is a 642-1. Makes sense, right?
