I just aquired a model 34 no dash. Serial #534XX. Wood grips with diamonds around screws. Are these the original grips or at least the correct ones for this time period? So far, I have not been able to remove the grips. They are really on tight. Any tips? Also, would Uncle Mikes boot grips (came off of my 442) fit on this gun? Any help appreciated. Cheryl

That would be 1959.
Loosen the screw almost all the way out and tap on the head of the screw with the butt of the screwdriver, that will loosen the right grip. Once it's off, you tap off the left one from the inside.

Thanks for the DOB info. Can anyone tell me about the grips? (see OP).

Cheryl, the diamond grips that are on it are correct I believe. Once you get them off, check them for a serial number. Your model 34 should be an I frame, smaller than a J frame. According to SCSW, they switched to a J frame in 1960, at serial # 70000, which would have been a 34-1.

So what kind of grips will fit this gun? Looking for something comfortable for target shooting. Do j-frame square butts fit this 34? Thanks for all of the help.

Cheryl,
Your 34 no dash is an Improved I-frame. It shares the same butt size with the J-frame and any J-frame grip will work. Keep it mind that if it is a square butt, you'll need J-frame square butt grips.

Model 34 grips

Thanks everyone for the help. Finally got the grips off. They are serial numbered to the gun! Want to put these away and find something for target shooting. Any ideas? BTW, anyone know how much these grips are worth?
