Grip Identification And An Ugly Model 36

For a rough finish gun, a bead blast and then blued gives a soft even mat finish. Looks rather nice.
Personally, I wouldn't waste even a penny on refinishing. But if you can find someone with a bluing tank, bead blasting followed by a dip in the bluing tank wouldn’t cost much. Or buy a bottle of Brownell’s Oxypho Blue.

Finger grove grip ID

"Who do you fine folks think made these finger grooves?"

Don't think I Know. They are a old set of "Mustang Grips". I got a set of them on the desk, that were on my 49, back in '74. Wore the blueing off the pistol and shipped it back to Smith for re blueing when they did it. Gee I'm old still carry it 50 years later.

Just a funny add on. It wears Uncle Mikes boot grips now.
 
The stocks on OPs pictured revolver are standard S&W round butt J Frame factory stocks that were mutilated by a former owner.
