Serial number 12450X.

I recently aquired this , as described, "38 special 5 shot snubby. Made in mid fifties. Original grips numbered to gun," two inch Chiefs Special. It is in very good condition with holster wear to the finish at the muzzel and a little on the cylinder.

It is very a very nice, tight gun.

Thanks for your help.

Thank you for the DOB. Much appreciated.

Would anyone care to estimate value (I am not selling but I am curious and I would also like to know for insurance)? Thanks.

I have been looking for a 36 to carry and finally found a pre 36 that sounds very similar to yours. I gave $370.00 for it and was happy to do so. It is in the 90,000 range and I guess it at a 1956 manufacture.

I have a 54-55 model unfired flatlatch 5 screw in the safe, but I just couldn't seem to make myself carry it. I know, I know, don't eveybody come on here about "If I can't shoot it, I don't want it."

I said the very same thing, I now say, "I never say never."

wundudnee,

Thanks for the info. Yes that looks just like mine (except for the wear on mine). I paid right at that number so I guess it was in line.

That's a picture of my early gun. It has the smaller trigger guard and smaller I frame grips. There were a lot of changes and variations in a short span on these pre 36s. They went from 5 screw to 3 screw and trigger guard, front sight blade from half round to ramped, and grip size changes in a few short years.

The one I bought is like yours, with minimal blue wear on the muzzle and a turn line, but pretty nice and solid. I won't feel bad about carrying it. I don't have a picture of it hosted yet.
