Does a bullet button make the M&P 15 California compliant?

Looking at a SW 15 I wonder if it would be legal to buy and own in California (as a non-FFL) due to the detachable magazine feature? And if so,I also wonder would a modification to the mag release such that use of a tool were required to remove it (i.e. a so-called "bullet button") make it legal under California gun laws? The California Attorney General's web page doesn't address the question. Who else to ask? Don't waste your on-line time complaining to me about California's super restrictive gun law. It is what it is and that's where I live; and I'd like to drive a SW 15 if its legal or can be made so.

They are legal. Colt is even making a special Kali friendly version. I think the only thing you have to worry about is if your specific gun is on on the ban list, and I doubt any M&P15s are. You can't use any mag with a >10 round capacity however.

Bullet Button in CA - Atty Gen Reg says OK

I made the original post about CA compliant S&P. Of course I wasn't referring to the 15-22 (which I have but haven't been able to get out and shoot yet). I was referring to centerfire rifles. At any rate, after my post I spent even more time researching and found that the CA attorney general by regulation says that a bullet button saves the day on rifles which are not Class 1or 2 (banned by specific model designation or by comparison to banned models). Class 3 rifles are those that have a "removable magazine" plus one of a half dozen other features (such as flash supressor or pistol grip, etc). So attorney general agrees that if a tool is needed to remove the magazine that it is not "detachable" and therefore legal in CA. Still may not have magazine with capacity greater than 10 rounds. And of course rimfire rifles, regardless of features, are not prohibited in CA (but magazine can't hold more than 10 rounds).

AFAIK- Model # 811037 is the Cali compliant model of the M&P.
