Does a sign prempt your right to carry?

Not true at all. In some states, the sign carries the power of law, in others, it does not have the power of law, but by not following it, and then not leaving, you face charges for trespass or in some cases armed trespass, which is a felony

It doesnt have to. The constitution exists only to keep your rights from being infringed by the government. This is a given.

Point one above. The reason they differ is because their power comes from the States. Not the Federal Government.

Point two. EXACTLY!!! No ones rights can trump any one else's.

Some retail stores out this way are now posting "No Guns Allowed" signs on their front doors/windows. If you're carrying concealed, and they happen to see that you are, they can ask you to leave. If you do not comply, you can be charged with trespassing. I usually respect the stores policy of no guns and will leave my weapon in the car, or at home, if I know I'm going to patronize a store with this warning. Basically, you're in a Catch-22 situation.....damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Ironically, in Texas the legal sign for an establishment to prohibit concealed carry is the "30.06" sign. Seriously - the name comes from the section of the state penal code. The other sign in Texas is the 51% sign - 51% of an establishment's sales is from alcoholic beverages.

this is correct, however, places that would cause "emotional distress" (i.e. hospitals, theaters, theme parks) are off limits to concealed carry individuals no matter what. when you do decide to get your license, your instructor will drill into your head where and where you cannot carry. now, the signs that have a picture of a gun with an ex through it are not lawful signs that you must abide by. they are the same as the ones with a cell phone in it...

Don't tell me what to do on my property and I won't tell you what to do on your property. Which also means that if you don't want guns on your property or in your store, then I respect your decision and I'm not going to second guess it. I'll just find someplace else to shop.

Carry conceal Laws vary! Know them!

In North Carolina the posted sign may not be your only hinderance. Currently, you can not carry into an establishment that serves alcohol in NC. There has been recent discussion to revise that law, allowing you to carry as long as you have not been drinking. In my mind, I feel that if you can conceal the weapon completely so as not to be seen then it would be better to face a jury of twelve than a murderer without your gun. Never the less, know the laws of your state and then make up your mind what your willing to do to protect yourself, your family and possibly strangers around you. I can't imagine anyone would have been upset in Aurora Colorado if someone had put down that psycho before he committed the level of carnage that he did unimpeded by anyone! What a terrible shame. Instead of the gun control folks using that to advocate for gun restrictions they should see that if someone else was armed it may not have ended quite as tragically as it did.

In Arkansas, a business can prohibit concealed carry in their store by posting a sign by all entrances that is visible from at least ten feet away.

If a CCW is about to enter someone's residence while carrying, the CCW must advise the homeowner and obtain his verbal permission before carrying a concealed weapon into the home.

The rub occurs when a business posts a sign, but the prohibition is in such fine print that the message is not visible from 10 feet away. I know a mall in Ft. Smith that is really bad about that. Their warning is in size 14 print--visible from maybe three feet away.

Places like 6 flags are off limits, sporting events. But hospitals are not off limits unless their No Gun Sign meets the requirements set in Texas Law, posted on every entrance, with a specific size lettering and in English & Spainish. If you are spotted in a hospital you could be asked to leave, but then you can't carry unconcealed in Texas anyway. You could be asked to leave as well for using a cell phone where restricted. I suspect the reason why some hospitals do not have legal signs in Texas is because some of their own doctors carry and are permit holders. I refuse to do business with doctors who do have legal no gun signs and I can find other doctors when it comes to medicare. Federal hospitals, VA etc, are all off limits, sign or no signs, and even certain teaching hospitals.
