I would like to see pictures of the holsters you in which you carry your Colt Mustang. I am looking for a new holster for mine.

Thanks in advance!

<span class="ev_code_BLUE">Sorry ,no pics, but I've had good experience with a Galco SOB
made for the PPKs. I wear it at the 4:00 position though.

A little off topic, but still about carrying a Mustang.

I used to have one but sold it because I could never figure out in which mode to pocket carry it.

It seemed more suited for carrying in a belt holster even though it was a pocket gun.

I didn't feel comfortable with it cocked and locked in my pocket since there was no grip safety. Thumb safety was too easy to accidentally put on "fire". I didn't want to carry it with a round chambered and hammer down and have to cock it.

Colt recommended it be carried with an empty chamber and I didn't want to do that...didn't want to holster carry it so away it went.

I miss it though

The gun is actually an FI (Star) Model D 380 ACP. I have owned it since 1980, Colt came out with the Mustang after this one was banned from import, they look identical. I have shot at least a thousand rounds through it without a hiccup. I won't carry this in my pocket, as it is just seems too bulky. I really like the gun but would prefer a good IWB holster for it.

I have a Colt .380 Mustang Pocketlite. I used to carry it alot but since they are no longer made and have gotten pretty valuable I don't carry it much. I think they were one of the best .380 pistols ever made. The fact that they used a locked breech which made them lighter and more compact than most blow back .380's was a very good point.

I originally used a Galco wallet holster. This is a pocket holster that holds the gun so it can be fired while still in the holster. I think carry of such a rig is illegal now. I have a clip type IWB holster made by Backwoods Leather Company in Portsmouth, Va.. I use that mostly if I carry it. I never liked carry in a trouser pocket much. I usually carried it with a round in the chamber and the hammer down. The shape of the grip and hammer and angle of them made cocking quick and easy.

You guys do realize that the Mustang Pocketlite has been resurrected, in the guise of the new Sig P238? Don't know when they will be available, but they are duplicates of the little Colt, at an affordable price, and with MUCH better sights than the originals. I have two original Pocketlites, but I'll still buy one of the Sigs.

I have a Colt pony pocketlite 380, thats the dao version. It came from the Colt custom shop new, with factory action job, real sights and custom wood grips. It is put up as value is very high.
I recently got a Ruger LCP and like it really well. I have a leather pocket holster for it.I can carry it in my pocket all day and not know it is there.
You know what they say, a little gun in the hand is better that a big gun left in the truck.

I saw and held one for the first time a few week back at the the local store. Sweet! never before wanted a .380 but wouldn't mind having the Mustang!

I don't carry one. Wish I would have gotten one back in the 90s when they were still in production and easy to get. The prices being asked for them these days are scary.

I don't have a picture of it, but when I used to carry my Mustang I used a Don Hume PCCH. This is my favorite IWB holster and I have several of them. Excellent quality at a reasonable price. I'm a fan of Don Hume leather.

I have seen pictures of the Sig pistol. I think it has some design points that I don't particularly care for. I prefer my Colt to the Sig. If I were looking for a .380 pocket pistol now I believe I would try the Ruger LCP. It is more compact than the Colt and is DAO and I think that is best with a pocket pistol.

Creedekid

When I worked undercover Narcotic myself and another agent were checking into our motel room. He dropped his undercover weapon a Star 380 on the pavement. It bent the slide in so bad it would not function. He was forced to carry by spare gun a model 19 with 4" all week.

Just remember the weak steel slide construction. Hope you don't have any problems

I always thought that the Mustang is the most beautiful pistol ever built. Never could afford one back in the day and rarely sold used today, some day.

What do you mean affordable price? I've never heard of a price on these things. I made a mistake and sold my Mustang Pocket Lite to my nephew, and then it got stolen out of his truck.

Under 500 depending on model on the Sig P238s- MSRPs are in the 500 range and street prices are less. Top Gun Supply is sold out, but you ask to be notified when they get more and they still have prices listed. (At least they showed "out of stock" as of last night.) They only ship with one mag, and spare mags are 44 dollars from Sig, so it might be a blades/razor thing at work partially.

I saw somewhere that MSRP was $538, and that street prices were running $425-$475, but I've not actually seen one of the guns to know. Given that Mustangs are going for twice that some places, and the Sigs have real sights, it looks like a bargain to me.

Gator, do you know about magazine interchangeability between Mustangs and P238s?

My Colt Mustang Pocketlite (Shorter barrel, shorter grip, alloy frame) goes with me everywhere and rests in my workbag 5 feet away from me right now.

My three year old grandson likes to handle it. He calls it "Papagun".

The magazine is also in the bag and has one handload ball lead round up front followed by 4 Glaser Safety Slugs.

It's been somewhat customized. The slide is silverish Armolloy, as is the barrel. The black plastic recoil spring rod under the barrel is now shiny aluminum. If you look at it from the front, the armolloy has been removed from the muzzle end of the barrel and the barrel blued. At first glance, the dull blued barrel face inside the shiny slide looks like a .45. Sneaky, huh?

The grips are flat metal also armolloyed, and the grip screws have been filed down flat. I also filed down the slide release lever (but left the safety full size).

This makes the flattest centerfire gun made at the time. Great for pocket carry, although I have some IWB holsters for it.

Last time I was wearing it on my person was a few months ago when a guy came in to work and said he needed a gun. He had gotten into an argument with some gang-bangers and they were threatening to kill him. He was really scared.

So the Mustang with magazine in place went on my belt for a week, until things blew over. If they killed him, I was the only witness, so what were my chances???

I have often used the "Israeli" carry that citizens in Israel use. Mag in place, safety off. When the flag flies, you draw, pull the slide back, and release. (When I used to chamber a round before each shift, my ammo would get terribly beat up.)

Safety first, last, and always.
