Does anyone else get rubbed the wrong way by Glock

I have nothing bad to say about Glocks and have never bad-mouthed them. They are a fine gun all of the good adjectives out there seem to apply to them and are well deserved. But in my case, they just flat-out don't fit me. I don't like the grip dimensions or the grip angle. I don't feel comfortable holding them or confident firing them. They are not quick for me to bring back to aim on follow-ups and forget about off hand. Yikes!

I find that when I say those things to "Glock heads" I get strange looks of utter disbelief. It's like...."How can you let a little thing like comfort and usability in your defensive firearm sway you away from owning a Glock"!

I have a friend who has a Lotus Exige. Cool driver's car and a ton of fun but, I can't get in or out of it without a jar of Crisco, a plunger and a bit of luck. It ticks him off to no end that I'm not all ga-ga over it. It's just the way it is. Get over it. He's 5'-7" and 135lbs....I'm well...not.

We will all survive if I don't buy a Glock. I promise you!

Many years ago when I was talking to a shooting buddy about having just acquired a 2nd gen Glock 22 when they first came out, he went into a diatribe against Glock that made me go, hmmmm?

His disdain for Glock was not so much with the gun itself, instead, he held them responsible for bringing to the forefront, a wave of hysteria over a high capacity magazine plastic handgun... that caused the media frenzy about how the new evil Glocks "can bypass airport metal detectors", which in turn brought the HCI crowd into the spotlight, using that panic to get more restrictive anti-gun legislation passed.

He holds Glock responisble for firing up/starting the modern anti-gun movement.... "we were fine until they showed up".

Oh... and he does think I'm some kind of S&W elitist snob, but that's just because he owns those Rugers... :D:D:D:D

My problem with Glock?
They don't fit my hands and they aren't made in the USA.

Other than that, I have no problem with them at all. Any product that has proven itself enough to get as popular and established as Glock has can't be all bad.
They just aren't my cup of tea.

My much-younger sister never says so, but registers such shock and dismay that I know she thinks I'm culturally on the level of the two-toed sloth because I never cared for certain movies/TV shows/bands/etc. I didn't much enjoy "Blues Brothers", for example, so I would have to look up to a passing armadillo.

The phenomenon is everywhere, it's not just guns or cars. Get into discussion with a real tea, coffee, cigar or wine zealot sometime. :D

I've owned a few. I have a 2nd gen 17 that was a factory refurb "MPDC" marked example. It'll go bang every time, good ergonomics, great capacity (although the balance changes as mag empties). But as a "revolver guy" I'm better off with a DA auto carried with safety in the off position. Col Cooper called the first DA round "shot cocking." Joe

Fan boys are just that - committed to their product of choice & zealous promoters of such. Too bad for them. Because there's a great big world out there just waiting to be explored and enjoyed. My first pistol was a gen 3 G17. I put just short of 3k flawless rounds through it before it was stolen earlier this year. When I went to replace my 17, the current run on 9mm guns left my pickings pretty slim. I wasn't willing to spend upwards of $800 on a gun that I paid only $450 for a year and a half prior. So since the M&P .40 was already on my short list of future acquisitions and it could be had for about $500, I went with that instead. I had a previous chance to shoot a rental M&P and instantly started jonesing for one. The immediate payoff there is that I can find more .40 ammo than I can 9mm. I'll eventually replace my stolen Glock because I do like the way that they shoot and carry. But I'm not in an absolute hurry to do so.

I am a Glock owner and I am not arrogant or rude to people, and yes I will admit it Glocks are ugly guns but they are reliable guns and imho that reliability outweighs its ugliness.

Never experienced arrogance from a Glock owner.
I've had five myself. Got rid of the G21 and G30 because they were just too big. I still have my G22, G23 and G27, all in .40 S&W caliber. I carry the latter two quite a bit. I shoot them very well and I don't care if they get nicked up. To me, they're just tools....pretty good tools.

As I appraoch senior citizen status I have finally learned the Fine Art of Tuning Out and Paying No Attention. I have fired 3 Glocks, don't like them-don't like aluminum or polymer or any frame or receiver that is not steel. I dismiss any form of snobbishness as a sign of immaturity and insecurity.

Two of my three sons carry Glocks. The other carries a Smith and Wesson. My daughter wants to get a Glock.

Are they arrogant about it? They don't seem to be to me. That's just what they prefer. They understand that their old man is a wheel gun man and they don't give me grief over it.

They also know that I prefer a lever action rifle and a side-by-side shotgun. Is this a case of "new school vs. old school"? Perhaps, but my adage has always been, "If it works for you...then use it.":)

I would never buy a Glock. They feel like I'm holding a brick in my hand. If you like them good for you.

I agree with the Harley Davidson syndrome. There is a lot of that around here. If you're not on a Harley you don't matter. Most of them ride to the Harley shop to hang out and talk chrome. Then it's an afternoon filled with bar hopping.

There is something to be said for an all metal gun. Its still a formidable brick when empty or made non functional. Plastic loses it velocity much faster when thrown. I am reminded of the movie Tombstone when Earp runs around hitting people with his Buntline special.

sighhhh...wasn't so long ago it was S&W vs.colt....i'm a die hard revolver guy but...recently bought the S&W 45c and love it...also carried a beretta 92d as a duty weapon for about 10 years...
