Growing up, my father had a Model 49 with serial number 4J3655. It was sold many years ago. I know the chances are slim to none that anyone here might have it, but you never know until you ask.

I'm sorry I can't help you, but I didn't want your post to go unanswered. Good luck in the hunt.

Things owned by a father or grandfather are special, and it is sad when they get away. My father was a symphony musician, and some of my best childhood memories involve watching him at the kitchen table as he made oboe reeds. After he died a few years ago, I found the old tackle box in which he kept his reed tools, corked tubes and cane blanks. But most of the supplies and hardware were gone. I guess he gave it away after he retired. Sure wish I had those things now.

I dug up the serial number for my first ever police issued Model 65, which was sold by the city via auction many moons ago. I posted it here but never got a response. You have to consider how many millions and millions of guns are out there compared to how many users of this site.

Good luck in your search. I have a Savage 99 in .300 Savage that was my father's saddle gun when he was doing cattle drives up in Britsh Columbia. I don't use it for anything, but I won't part with it either.
