Does anyone make a sheep lined holster?

Suede lined holsters can pick up, and hold various types of grit.
Think powder residue, primer residue, and plain old dirt.I think rimfire primer residue is about the worst.

😳😳
Been using them for 40 years and nothing but gentle on my guns used in them, you just have to brush them out from time to time.

I hesitate to say much, because this discussion about lined/unlined gunleather has been argued before, and will be argued again. It will never be settled as long as there is an internet to quickly claim, and so spread, the old wives' tales.

Specifically Neale Perkins, who was not a holster man but an advertising man, did us no favours with his chrome tanned suede linings. Yet people argue in favour of his SSL even to this day! We followed at Bianchi because we needed to compete.

Personally I choose unlined horsehide because its underside is as smooth as a baby's bum. Add wet moulding and one has done the best one can to protect the finish. Add a stainless pistol and you've won the trifecta! A major maker is set to announce the addition of horsehide gunleather, watch these pages.

The BACKSIDE of this horsehide Seventrees that is in Witty's collection (and in the pages of Holstory the Book) shows just HOW smooth the flesh side is:

I would love a new manufacturer to work with horsehide because I’m honestly miffed at Kramer right now I had an issue with the last one. It took way way way longer than it should’ve and it came in subpar. They have no interest of being any help over email contacts or anything so I’d rather not use them

Lining or no, gun finish is worn largely by poor holster fit. Holstering and drawing cause part of it, of course, but most wear comes from the gun moving around inside the holster constantly as it is carried throughout the day. Make sure your holster fits your gun correctly and a lining is completely unnecessary.

That right there! I completely agree.

Fleece lined holsters are bad about holding dirt and grit.
Why worry about a Ruger double-action revolver getting a few scratches? They have always been kind of like the AK-47 of double-action revolvers.

My uncle kept a Browning Auto 5 in a sheepskin lined case. One year when he pulled it out it had deep rust pits. This was when he was living in a Utah desert. I believe as did he that sheep skin not just holds moisture but can attract it.

My Dad had the exact same issue with his Sweet 16 A5. Seems like the wool draws moisture.

I need to shoot it first and see if it’s worth waiting a year (joke) for a Kramer

According to Kramer's website (just looked 10 minutes ago) their lead time is 14-16 weeks. Not exactly overnight, but far from a year. IMHO, their Horsehide holster are actually worth the wait - and personally I'd wait even if it did take a year. I'd just use something available instantly in the interim.

After carrying concealed a for 45 years I have never found anything equal or better! I have no horse in this race as I have nothing at all to do with Kramer - they just make the best holsters, gun belts & ammo/mag carriers I have even had - and I have had plenty over those 45 years.

How do they get the sheep inside the holster anyway?

Small attempt at humor......

Randy

PS. check eBay for Kramer holsters. Most of my holsters are Kramer
