A LGS will host "Smith and Wesson Days" this weekend with factory reps and shoot any gun for the cost of ammo. A couple of weeks ago during Glock days I really liked the G48 single stack. Basically a thin G19. I searched the Smith website looks like the closest is a Shield or am I missing something?

Nope the Shield would be it.

I will say though the Shield shoots like a larger pistol if you haven't tried one you may want to.

I've shot a Glock G48...I bought a M&P Shield 1.0. Both are single stacks. The G48 is a 10rd mag which can be extended to 12. The 9mm Shield comes with both 7rd and 8rd mags and they can be extended +2. The extended capacity of the G48 is a plus..but the feel of the Shield in my hand is what convinced me to purchase the Shield with a CT green laser. I have not had any problems with my Shield 1.0 although I have made quite a few performance upgrades to it. Both are nice guns as is...although I haven't shot the Shield 9mm 2.0 yet.

Thanks. I've never shot an M&P so I look forward to giving a couple of models a try. The G48 just felt perfect in my hand and it's almost too easy to shoot, I kind of like a gun to have some challenge to it.
Sidenote: I field stripped the 48 so see the innards and this demo gun looked like it had never been cleaned. Powder residue caked inside the slide like I have never seen. Worked great anyway.

Aftermath: The S&W event was kind of a dud compared to Glock days. None of semi's caught my fancy and the LGS pricing wasn't good at all.
Now that I have my R51 broken in and 100% reliable, I'll just stand pat with that for 9mm. Whatever you think of sliding breech block actions or the Freedom Group, once you grasp the logic behind the design it has some compelling features. For me.

Ill take my shield any day over any gun that says GLOCK on it.

shocker Once I grasp the logic behind the design along with Remington current production of the oringal R51 it has some compelling features I want nothing to do with there current production weapons . Not sure what you think you want out of a single stack M&P that the shield does not cover but theres plenty of good single stacks out there like Bersa BPCC 9mm , a number of lite 3.24" 1911 single stacks in 9mm . MY wifes carrys a 740 dollar Kimber ultra 9mm and taurs G2sor G2c are winners . For a the minor difference in width between a G19 and 43 or m&p shield and compact 3.6 or 4" if you think the wider ones harder to conceal its not really .

But you can research the difference as easily as folks here can explain them r visit a few guns shops and make notes . They all shoot well and any difference are minor and easy to learn to deal with . If I won a free R51 I would trade it off before touching it as I did with an R1 they finally gave use 7 months after we returned the R51 !! Remington did a lot of people very wrong for some of use to take a chance on them again .

I don't carry any smaller gun unless a my old s&w 669 can be called a compact today !!

9mm Shield rides in the pocket, when I can't pack the M&P9.

I agree strongly: Shield carries like a small gun, shoots like a big gun. I don't know how Smith did it, but they did it.

Just pointing out that Glock did a bigger, better show than S&W. Plus, before you can shoot a demo you have to sign a release form from S&W whereas the Glock rep just handed the gun to the SO and off we went.
They didn't have any 3.6 compacts and the only real promos were on the "old" models not the 2.0s.
The striker fired polymer guns are small variations on the same thing so it comes down to ergo and trigger feel. I happen to like Glock triggers and the G48 feels right in my hand. To throw in some fighting words, just looking at a G48 vs. a compact 2.0 vs a Sig 365 the Glock just looks and feels like a higher quality gun. How's that for subjective evaluation?

shocker I'm one of those guy that have 8 different brands of handguns My carry rotation might be one of three brands . Glocks have come and gone a couple times over 30 years and I just don't care for them do to the grip design . If you like a gluck go buy one , after all your the only one it matters too . but it is up to you to try different models and if you have outdoor ranges /public ranges you might be able to shoot handguns you may never own y swapping guns , just ask !!

Get on a state gun forum and ask if folks in your area will let you try what they have or what you want to try . I swap with people at a forestry range I visit often . Everyone wants to shoot something new to them .

The same can be said about any gun.

I happen to like Glock triggers and the G48 feels right in my hand......the Glock just looks and feels like a higher quality gun.
So, you like Glocks and think they are a better quality gun.

The world is full of different opinions. Thankfully there are many gun manufacturers to feed those differences. You've clearly made up your mind. Enjoy your new Glock.

Well, I for one might suggest you at least take a look at the many models available from KAHR . These are fine, reliable (after the recommended break-in period) single stack pistols in multiple calibers (from 380acp to 45acp) that are very concealable and a joy to shoot.

Prices are currently truly amazing for some models ($300-400 for many models and calibers) and there currently is a $45 factory rebate.

Cheers!

I have a modified Shield 1.0 9mm with CT green laser, polished True Precision Stainless Steel threaded 3.6" barrel, all aluminum 6.5"x 1.25" dia 5 oz muzzle brake, Hyve trigger, SS Recoil Reduction rod, TFO fiber optic tritium sights, Apex Striker Block, Hyve mag release extension, (5) 10 rd Hyve mag extensions, Hogue grip...still gotta do the Apex sear upgrade. Shoots like a dream and fits in my pocket. Love my Shield! Sound like I'm bragging...I am... MP10 .308 next build

I didn’t see anywhere where you even said you’ve actually shot a P365. There’s a reason a lot of the YouTube Glock fanboy reviewers are now carrying P365. That said, for carry, my P365 replaced my PC .45 Shield. Never been interested in Glocks because of the awful ergonomics between grip and POA. Well, and the ridiculously cheap sights they come with. I’ve never understood why Glock users seem to be the ones who must go to other manufacturers forums and stir the pot. Enjoy your Glock, I’ll enjoy my P365 and Shield. Choices are GREAT!
