Don Hume thoughts.

Hey gang, I made a recent purchase of a Don Hume holster by suggestions of forum members and by the results of review search on their products.
Purchased a Don Hume H721 owb holster for my 4006 TSW.
This is my first leather and owb and I must say it's a fantastic holster. Retention of the weapon is very very good and it snugs up very tight to the body.
Comfort level of this holster is very good and the quality workmanship and detail of this holster is excellent in my opinion.
After wearing this holster now for about two-and-a-half to three weeks I have no doubt this will be the holster I will use.
My previous holster for this weapon was an Alien Gear iwb cloak tuck 2.0 which I thought was very comfortable until I got the Don Hume.
There is no doubt in my mind that this company makes a high-quality product.

Don Hume served in the U. S. Navy, and like many holster makers, was a
policeman and deputy sheriff in the 1950s. While in Southern California
Don became acquainted with Bill Jordan, and after Sam Myres died Bill
got a trademark on his name for his Border Patrol holster, and gave the
exclusive right to it's use to Don Hume. The Border Patrol launched Don
into the big leagues of holster making. He moved his business to Miami
Oklahoma and it became bigger and more successful. His company always
made high quality equipment. Did a lot of business with the law enforcement
sector. Just a few years ago his business was acquired by Oklahoma Leather
also of Miami, Oklahoma. Don passed away just a few years ago.

I used Don Hume duty holsters and gear for many years, primarily Basket Weave stamp for 1911s in Condition One, mag pouch, cuff case etc. It was quality gear and never had any kind of problem. Finally switched to lighter weight nylon gear when we started carrying the plastic pistols.

Don Hume leather products have always been first rate in every category, design, materials, manufacturing, etc. One of the best large scale production companies in the industry.

I have several of his holster and will most likely acquire more. Well built, great fit..... they work great. A 721 for my Commander is next on my list.

Don Hume inspires some serious appreciation from me. Their concealed carry belt is the just right porridge- not too stiff, but not floppy. High quality at a decent price point, under $50. I wore one out after about a decade and am on my second as a companion.

Ironically, I have at least three holsters from Miami presently but haven’t been happy with any of their J Frames holsters.

I wore Don Hume leather every work day for years when I was a uniformed officer. Trouser belt, duty belt, breakfront holster, speed loader pouches, cuff cases and keepers. All quality gear, served me well. Still have some Hume holsters.

Used Don Hume holsters and other cop gear...handcuff cases, speed loader cases, after switching to semis, used the holsters and mag pouches, duty belts etc. top quality, and never had any problems of any kind.

At one time most all of my duty gear was Don Hume. From my early economically challenged street cop days I always thought of it as good decent leather goods at an affordable price. Far better than the other more affordable Brauer Bros available at the time. I have one of their modern holsters for concealed carry. It seems well made and fits and functions well and has given no problems but it hasn't seen extensive use. It was still affordably priced. However, the leather is very thin, which does cause me some concern.

I've never used their products, but Don Hume is on a short list of "over-the-counter" leather holsters (i.e., not custom gear) I'd be willing to try.

Like the JIT for small 9s and EDC. Carried Hume Gear for years as a cop and it was first rate.

Recently bought a "second" Cross Draw rig for a 2" K frame for uniform wear, Black Basketweave, and the craftsmanship and materials are first rate. It was graded a "second" due to a blemish on the belt side of the holster. Like to wear in the field or traveling .

I too wore Hume leather on duty for several years, Sam Browne belts, holsters, handcuff cases and belt slide extra ammo carriers. Perhaps my favorite belt from Hume was the River Belt, which I would have worn on duty if I could have. It went with me to the range a lot over the years as well as on many hunting/hiking/exploring trips. The River Belt was a double thickness of heavy leather that was two inches wide. I wore it over my pants belt and it was secured to that with belt keepers. It was very comfortable and gave excellent service.

It served me well as an equipment and gear belt during the years I served on the "Special Assignment" that was dubbed as the "Tactical" team as opposed to a Swat Team. Twenty of us covered serious social and civil difficulties and any other kinds of serious events, such as the State Penitentiary uprising where 33 souls (inmates) lost their lives in February of 1989. That little scuffle required three weeks of the team's time and definitely qualifies as a memorable occasion for me. Based on my use of the River Belt while serving on assignment with this team, a great many of the other guys also adopted that belt for this duty. We did this without official sanction, but since we were handling situations that nobody else wanted to handle, no officials ever complained about the way we wore our gear. Said all that to say this, I have never been disappointed in the service that Hume gear provided for me (us), nor their service given to me and multitudes of other LEO's over the years. Good stuff that was sold at a price we could afford. Always got way more than my money's worth back from any of the Hume products I used!

I've been a fan of Don Hume leather although for personal use and mostly purchased used. The 2" River Belt is perhaps the finest gun belt made. I've owned a few. I'm wearing a 1-1/4" double thickness belt on my pants right now and have others, very high quality!
Over the years I've had several marked and unmarked quality holsters with a rolled-edge, white or cream top-grain leather lining like the three shown here.
The black one fits my 4" j-Frame 22/32 Kit Gun perfectly. It and the snubby are stamped with the "Don Hume - Maker - Miami -Okla" mark.
The snubby fits a J-2" but the strap is loose. The carved middle holster is not stamped but sure looks to be the same manufacture and materials. it is ink pen marked Mod 27 4" on the back and fits my 4" N-Frame perfectly.
Does anyone know about these apparently "custom" lined Hume holsters. Date, cataloged? actually ordered, think the snubby fits a Colt??
The Basket-weave snubby and the carved N-Frame came used from the same source in OK.

Don Hume made his name with Police gear. But they also make first rate concealed carry gear for us civilians as well. I have several of his holsters and they have all served me very well for many years.
They're well made, tough, secure and most importantly very reasonably priced. I highly recommend Don Hume products.

I like their holster and they can frequently be found at about the same price as Bianchi so they are less expensive than many leather rigs and are an excellent value.
