Hi,
in May I got a 624 4" and although I immediately liked it (being a die hard fan of the N-frame anyway), I considered having it roundbutted. I was reluctant because I have a 27-3 and like the square butt with decent stocks for target shooting, but the 624 is intended as a carry gun when hunting, so I thought a smaller stock would be more convenient with the gun in a holster - but wasn't sure if the handling when shooting would be as comfortable as with the square butt (I regularly shoot my wife's 696 which has the Ahrends retro banana on and I like it, although I have large hands and the L-frame feels like a small gun when you are accustomed to a N-frame). After some time of consideration (to to or not to do), I eventually ordered my preferred gunsmith to alter the grip frame to round butt.
Have been to the range twice now, and I think my decision was a good one. Even with stout loads, the gun feels very comfortable, and I guess recoil might be better managed due to more contact surface with the palm and better muscle tension of the fingers.
It is surely no collectible any more, but this gun never was intended to be one, but a shooter.
