Don't get me wrong I love my 15 22. I realize its not the best when it comes to target shooting, I shoot at the range with a bipod and a nc star mark 3 tactical scope at max 25 yards ,id say about a 2 inch group at that distances. anybody get better then that. I think I could do better with more practice or should I just be happy with that. Could it be the ammo, federal target stuff. This ammos not bad, gun has been shooting fine, no fte since I tweaked little arm? in ejection area. Well here's what I want an answer to, is there a better tacticool 22lr available that is more accurate please let me know thanks.

You should get much better than a 2 inch group at 25 yards. The 15-22 is about a 3 MOA rifle... that means it is capable of a 3 inch group at 100 yards. Your rifle is shooting 8 MOA. At 25 yards, you should be able to keep a group under an inch.

The first thing I would do is shoot the rifle with iron sights, from sand bags or some other rest. If the rifle groups well when shot from a supported position with the iron sights, then you know the rifle is good and can focus on determining if the issue is the scope or loose mounts.

Agree with cypertext above, but I will add:

According to the NC Star manual, these scopes are parallax free after 50 yards. My guess is that you are getting poor accuracy and precision because of that.

Most scopes are probably like that - minimum distance of 50 yards to be 'usable' above a 1x magnification.

3 MOA @ 100yds...I realize I'm no expert marksman, but there's no way my 15-22 will shoot 3 MOA @ 25yds.

Been thinking about sending it in...or selling it.

What kind of groups are you getting? Iron sights or optic? Have you tried different types of ammo?

3-4 MOA is the average in 15-22s and the PC model is only slightly better at best. My 2 15-22s can shoot slightly better but both have aftermarket handguards to stiffen them up some. But it will in no way be able to compete against the Rem 597 semi I use for metallic silhouette and NRA Winchester Marksmanship benchrest. Difference is my 15-22 can do .75" at 25 yards while my 597 can do .15-.20. That is both using scopes but only 6x to 9x max.

Have tried various types of ammo. Both irons and a rds. Grouping ranges around 4 inches @25 yds. All over the place too.

I'm thinking a loose barrel nut is possible.

I can get very tight groups with all my other rifles, so I'm leaning against shooter error.

Have tried shooting in several different positions.

Something is wrong with that gun... 4 inches at 25 yards is not a group... that is a pattern! :D

Good Lord! Put the gun down & switch to throwing rocks. You will be more accurate. :D

No kidding.

The first time I shot it, I passed it off to shooter error/new rifle/etc...However, the second and third time pretty much gave me a sour taste for it. I'm not just yet giving up of her.

Other than making a 'custom' barrel nut tool, there's not much I plan on doing. Not gonna invest in barrel clamps, free float adapters, etc...on the off chance that it does work.

I'll stick to my AK's for now :D. 2-4 MOA depending on what/how I'm shooting

I would definitely try some different ammo, too. I have found CCI and Winchester to be more accurate in my guns than Federal. Although, sometimes you have to buy what you can find!

Grab a bag and rest the hand guard on it, shoot a 5 shot group. Then, rest the 15-22 on the magazine and shoot another 5 shot group. If you see a difference in elevation on the groups and they are wide spread, you have a loose barrel nut.

tacticool .22 that is more accurate? No. You can dress up a 10/22 to be "tactical" and get a bit better accuracy, but then it's not entire tacticool or as accurate as a .22 as you can get.

A nice CZ 452 (or 455) is going to be more accurate, but not tactical at all.

Interesting. I run a Leapers Bugbuster 4-9 adjustable parallax scope and shoot primarily CCI minimag through my 15-22 MOE. At 25yrds off the bench it drives nails, really, 1/4 " hole from a 25 round mag.

I just wish I could do that standing unsupported.

I've shot multiple variants of each:

Federal
Winchester
CCI
Aguila
Eley
Remington

Will try the barrel nut test suggestion.

Sorry for high jacking the OPs thread.

I am not a marksman but I think something is wrong with your 51-22. I can shoot close to a 1" group at 25 yards with just the for end supported and kneeling with an Eotech.

I have both a 1522 and Sig 522 and I get better accuracy from the Sig. It has more of a bull barrel though and the rifle is definitely heavier. But I didn't buy either to be a tack driver. I think the 1522 is more fun to shoot offhand because of the weight, but I really like both guns.

As far as other .22s... American Rifleman did a .22 'black rifle' comparison test. For accuracy, Ruger SR-22 (10/22) was number one, followed by Rem597 VTR, Sig522 and the 15-22. At the bottom were HK 416, GSG-522, Colt and Mossberg.

I've owned a Sig522 SWAT for a few years. I put a fixed low power compact dime store optic on it. It shoots quite well. But that's only when it's out of the safe which is more and more seldom. 15-22 gets used most of the time. It's lighter, more fun for offhand shooting and pretty much a rimfire clone of my AR. The soda cans really don't care much about precision accuracy anyway. :D
