I'm serious!

We finally pulled the trigger on our home gym. First machine is this XTERRA Fitness ERG650W rower.

We both need low impact exercise and since we both love the water, a water rower just makes sense (to us).

It arrived today and I put it up, ready to go, in less than one hour by myself. It's really no problem at all.

It's well built and very sturdy, I'd say it's worth the money, despite it being made in China.

But holy cow.... after about 8 minutes and 1,600 meter of rowing I'm done.

I think 10min twice a day must do it for now. And I regret every french fried potato I've ever eaten in my life...

But one thing is for sure, it really does make a soothing sound.

Bikini body here we come...

I used to belong to a gym that had Nordic Trac rowing machines. I loved working out 20-30 min every other day. Once a week I would do a 5 KM sprint! I would literally have a puddle under me when I finished! People seemed to like watching my sprints, but soon learned to stand back!

Maybe turn down the resistance some?

Funny you should mention that machine - I've wanted a decent rower my whole life. My neighbor's fiance has one like yours and he showed it to me when he was moving it back to his house after loaning it to my neighbor when she couldn't get to the gym because of COVID. It looks pretty neat!

Congrats on the new equipment.

I have multiple chronic health conditions that make exercise problematic. I prefer hiking, but the last time I did my allergies, asthma, and emphysema ganged up on me and sent me to the ER. :( I walk when I can, but lately I've been resorting to shadowboxing. I can make it low impact and ratchet the intensity up or down depending on how I'm feeling. Between that and getting my diet back on track, I've lost about 10lbs in the last couple of months, most of it in the last month. I can now fit into clothes I haven't worn in probably 15 years.

One piece of exercise equipment that I've always wanted is one of those small pools that create a current so you can swim "laps" in place. I think they're called infinity pools. Maybe if I win the lottery. *fingers crossed*

When the gyms were closed down due to covid last year, my wife and I had to figure out a way to do home workouts.
We already had some stuff for home physical therapy.

And got a coupla 25 pound dumbells and a "budget" priced elliptical from Walmart.

We also have an old spin bike that was sitting on a curb with a "free" sign on it.

Anyway, I've been working hard over the years to get healthy and fit and was determined to not let the close downs take that from me.

This year, I spent the fall and winter months at the gym trying to put on some lean mass and got up to 163 pounds by mid February. Now that Spring's here, I'm attempting to trim fat off and I'm down to 155 pounds as of this morning. My goal's 150 lean pounds by June.

I'm 70 yo, and do a 30 plus minute run/walk at 10 percent incline 4-5 days a week and hit a weight machine twice a week. Been doing that for many years. I'm 20 pounds or so over weight, but have good muscle tone and quite a bit of stamina. I would really be heavy without the exercise.

Great thread! we all need to do some exercise get our blood moving

I do some Tai Chi type exercise for maybe a hour- try for every day make maybe 5 times a week.

Its a fun interesting hobby. 24 movement form is a good place to start.

Gymnasticon - Wikipedia

I might try to build a Gymnasticon some day- lol

I spend 5 days in the gym, 1-2 hrs, down from 6-7 days pre virus, with the "senior" crew.
Those "mature" guys who can put much younger guys to shame.
Currently working on getting rid of the Covid weight when the gym was closed.

Ive been going to the gym 3 days a week for over 40 years. It helps that the gym is in my basement. I almost never miss a workout. My main motivation is fear of what would happen to me if I quit. I see a lot of my friends who are in my age group with multiple health and mobility issues that I don't have and give a lot of credit for that to my lifting.

At about 5'5" I've been able to make weight in the 132 lb class for all those years and I still can.

I like to challenge myself by setting reasonable goals. I'll be turning 70 in about 6 weeks and want to lift more in the three powerlifts on that birthday than I did on my 65th birthday. I'm a little ahead of schedule to meet that goal right now. I might have a chance to beat what I could do 10 years ago.
