We had a garage sale years ago , back when you put an ad in the paper . We stated that it would start at 0800 and end at 1300 . At 0730 a lady showed up and asked if she helped haul stuff outside , could she have first pick . Of course us and our neighbour said sure ! It takes all kinds to make this world go round ...........

My neighbors are storage war people. They have "sales" often. The customers drive across my lawn and often drive over and break the plastic drain cap. I have to pay money after each sale.

On some nice weekends I want to take the boat out and go fishing. I can't if a sale is going. Too much traffic for me to back the boat back in the driveway.

If you have a garBage sale, expect me to be a bad neighbor.

My late BIL was an OTR trucker for several years. He had quite a collection of truckstop VHS tapes, mainly horror / suspense genre, with a few "kinky-esque" thrown in. But there were a few "classics", westerns / old Hollywood / etc. that I kept. Still, after I removed my choices, it was a good-sized box with about 50 tapes at least.

We were cleaning up and my wife wanted the VHS tapes gone. So I put a "free" ad on FB and said that I would be at the local WM parking lot at a certain time, parked near the Zaxby's up front, because that seemed to be the unofficial meeting place for lots of local FTF transactions. Within 5 minutes I had several FB messages wanting my home address, to be the first. Nope, meet me at WM, no ifs, ands, or buts.

As much as I hate to say it, the first guy there / lucky recipient looked like the type that would enjoy cheap, B-type, truckstop "special" VHS tapes. Poor personal appearance - greasy hair, BO, dirty clothes, etc. Didn't appear to be a "methbilly", but I wouldn't advise that appearance for any job interviews.

I noticed a few other similar types in the parking lot hanging out and watching us. As soon as the recipient left, one of them started following him. Strange IMHO, but the tapes were gone and the wife was happy.

Anyway, just an entertaining experience.

When I went to Apple for my computers I had two old PCs and an old tube type monitor. Set them out on the curb after I pulled the hard drive out of them. They were gone in an hour. May have been some metals in them worth something but not worth my time to fool with them for that

A while back I posted Free to Thee on Craigslist.
Folks about me drove to distraction.
The apparent problem was the stuff was out East of Town in the mountains.
Some folks apparently thought that if they called repeatedly I would give in and deliver.
And when this happened, we were working on the property.
Time for a Big Box!

I’m not on facebook, but I use the nexdoor app to get rid of stuff. We have a airbnb across the street and down a couple of houses, in other words, far enough away that any traffic doesn’t impact us and about half our street is still empty lots. I’ll post a “curb alert” and give the airbnb address, then place the items in front of that house. Of course, I only do it when the property isn’t rented, which seems to be about 80% of the time. That way, I maintain a buffer of anonymity since they don’t know where it actually came from and I don’t have any idiots to deal with.

You never responded to my PM asking how many free steaks were included :(

Here's what I do.

I have not been on Facebook since 2017, and will not be ever again.

I take whatever it is I want to get rid of to the end of my road. I place it where it can be seen from the state highway. I put a big cardboard sign on it that was FREE - WORKS!!!

I have gotten rid of an electric water heater, a push mower, 2 gas grills, and a bicycle.

Now, I have no idea if anyone ever used them again. My guess is one of the local scrappers picked them up for cash. It doesn't matter to me either way.

All I know that is they were gone, and I didn't have to deal with anyone to get rid of them.
