Don't you hate it when the price is too high?

I went trolling through the pawn shops in a local town today. One had some decent old Smiths and this one caught my eye. A well worn 6906, as shown. Comes with the holster and a second magazine, which had a blued finish and flat base plate. Possibly for a different model, but it did fit in the gun. I wanted the gun but the price seemed a little high. I took a pic and will mull it over this week. I doubt it's going anywhere and the owner might budge a little on the price if I ask nicely...

Another store had a two-tone CS40. The gun itself was like new, couldn't find a single mark on the finish, but only one magazine and no box or papers. Price was $439, which also seemed high. I don't need either, so I wasn't in a hurry to overpay. Maybe I'm a cheap skate.

Fun fact about Pawn Shops: they set their prices higher as they intend for people to try and negotiate, so they can "fall back" onto what they wanted to get out of the gun in the first place. Don't hesitate to negotiate! I had a pawn shop knock $200 off of a SIG Sauer P226 originally priced at $600 before. Heck, I've even seen a 2nd Gen GLOCK 19 go for $529.99 at one too...despite a brand new one being $535 about a mile down the road..

Simple solution ask how firm they are on the price. If still higher than you want don't buy it.

Theres always room to negotiate on those pawn guns.

If they have $175 in that, it's alot. If you don't make an offer you'll never
know where they stand.

And yes there are better condition ones out there, but you may search for
awhile to find one.

I found this one, never fired in the box and complete with all the paperwork for $400 this summer.

I went to a local gun show this morning. Saw several S&W autos that I would love to add but just couldn't bring myslef to pay what they wanted. One was a really nice Lady Smith 3919 that the fellow wanted 500.00 for. It was nice enough but had only one mag and no box. Another was an "Allegedly NIB" 5904 that they were asking nearly 500.00 for. That is one I'm still thinking about. That did not seem at all a bad price if the gun is actually NIB. Just about all the others I saw were laughable in price.

Yes I will negotiate if I go see the guns again. However, I much prefer to find great deals sitting on the shelf before negotiation, then talking the price down a bit more to sweeten the deal. Having to start at a stupidly high price then talk the owner down to a reasonable level usually just sends me walking. There are too many bargains out there to overpay, especially for a beat up 3rd Gen.
