I don't like the finger grooves on the factory Hogue grips on my K and N frames but I like them otherwise. Has anyone dremeled down or completely removed the raised finger ridges? I am curious whether it could be done without destroying the grip, particularly how the end result looks.

Thanks.

Better to use sandpaper than a dremel - better control with the sandpaper. Wrapping the sandpaper around a short length of dowel (3/8" or 1/2") works best for me. Often making the grooves less agressive works well.

Why not sell the finger groove grips and buy some without? Many people, like me, prefer the finger grooves so it shouldn't be a problem selling them. Less hassle than modifying and refinishing them.

If you do it, definately use sandpaper or a sander with a larger surface area. A dremel can very easily and quickly dig to deep in some areas before you realize it. With a larger sander or piece of sand paper, the sanded area will be much more uniform. It will take a little longer, but the results will be much better.

Though you do not mention it, I presume you are talking about Hogue rubber grips and not the wood ones.

You can use a Dremel with the sanding wheel to remove the finger grooves. It will work just fine. I removed all but the top groove on the grips for my 500 S&W Magnums.

If you are talking about Hogue wood grips, then the suggestion of selling them and ordering a grip without grooves is a better idea.

You could also send them back to Hogue and have them re-do your stocks to your liking.

I had a smooth stock on mine, too slippery, so I sent them back to add stippling. Charged $30 or so, had them back in about 2 weeks. Looks and feels great!
