Drivers That Swing Wide To Make Simple Turns!

I notice more and more drivers that swing wide over into the other lane to make turns. I know this is necessary for tractor trailers, towing campers, boats, etc, so this ain't directed toward them.

This is for the idiots in 35MPH zones with normal width roads and rounded curbs that seldom use a blinker, driving their small car or short wheelbase suv/pickup that do it.

The one that swing so wide into the left lane that I think they're turning left and then suddenly turn a hard right placing themselves broadside directly in my path. If I have a heavy load on or behind my truck it ain't so easy to miss them.

I make these same turns in my full size crewcab p/u without any such maneuvering. I simply make the turn. I see school buses make these same turns without hitting the curb, I think Mom or Jr in there suv or Honda Civic should be able to just fine.

Who taught these people to drive?

Are there video games that show this as being normal?

Rant Over!

Thanks for listening.

In my professional opinion, the moment they swing too wide to make a turn is the very next moment AFTER they look up from their cell phone...

This wide swing is one of my biggest pet peeves. You're not driving a frigging semi, it's a Toyota Corolla. It can make the turn. Don't swerve toward me and scare the **** outta me.

Ha!. Roundabouts are nothing. True entertainment can be found at a diverging diamond. For those not familiar with this concept, read and attempt to understand it here. Good luck.

The Springfield/Branson MO area where my son lives has several of the diverging diamonds. I have no problem with them.

My favorite is the guy who moves to the turn lane, then cuts back into the lane of travel to make a wide turn. You know.....just as you start to pass him.

I've learned to just hang back and wait :(

I call the turn method described in the OP as the "fake Scandinavian flick". The guilty driver saw the World Rally Championship once on TV and think that the flick works on dry asphalt at 10 mph.

While we are complaining about driving habits, why do I see brake lights before the turn signal? That's the wrong way round and got you yelled at by my instructor.

Roundabouts? Being born British means I've forgotten more about driving around them then the combined wisdom of the rest of Las Vegas on the subject.

For me.......

They are so bloody easy, maybe not idiot proof but pretty damn close.

I agree, it defies common sense. Just as those who are driving say 45 mph, and see a red light, they speed up and then slam on the brakes at the light instead of just slowing down and coasting to a red light.
My observations over the years are that a lot of them are women.

A thought for a new saying , “I.B.W.” ,Idiots Behind Wheel” can use it in conversation. Should have been on I-26 from Columbia, S.C. to I-95 , then I-95 to the Ga. line. Way to many IBW’s on the interstates....

I ran across a couple of these in Virginia last year. First I ever saw. I build roads for a living, and still found them confusing. Would probably work o.k. once everyone was familiar with them.

I think folks down here drive like they're steering a boat but living where I do the comment may be misconstrued.
For entertainment on a level with the roundabout cruise a 4 way stop with left turn lanes thrown in the mix.

TURNING

I see this so much and to add, taking forever to make a simple turn. I have to wonder what these people would do with a 50's car with NO power steering?? Is it just being lazy/ stupid, or both.
