Driving slow in the fast lane

Couple of years ago driving from Montgomery Ala. to Birmingham on I65 I was in a pack of cars doing 90 MPH. Got pulled over by a Ala. Trooper.
Asked him why did he singled me out. He asked me "Have you ever been fishing?" I said yes. His reply was "Well you can't catch them all !" .
Still cracks me up thinking about it. The Fine was worth it. (he did knock speed down on ticket thou. :D

In California you'll be picked out when "keeping up with traffic" if you have a NV plate. I believe this is payback for hardcore NHP (now NSP, I keep forgetting) enforcement on I-15 to/from Vegas. I'm typing this on a Friday afternoon, so the tickets should be flowing well by now.

florida you can be ticketed for impeding the flow of traffic.
snowbirds from Canada get in the fast lane and sit there at
70mph and won't move over. on the back county roads their even worse.
thankfully snowbird season is just about over.

This surprises me. You'd think they'd be in a hurry to make it in time to the Sizzlers early bird special.

My wife drives in the left lane and it makes me crazy.

I asked her one time why do you drive in the left lane and her answer was its smoother.

If were going on the interstate I have to drive.

DD, please, I beg you...show this short video to your wife. Thanks.

Some states have signs that say slower traffic keep right and don't clog up the center lane either.

On I-10 in California this is 100% true. That drag between Palm Springs and San Bernardino is proof positive we went to the Moon. We peeled a bunch off, laid it out in CA then attached on/off ramps.

It's those dreaded frost heaves.;)

Having driven a lot in Europe, you'd better not try that stuff in Italy on the autostrada. When in the left lane you'd better be going fast and leave the left turn signal on. As soon as you pass you get in the center or right lane. And if you linger in the left lane and don't pay attention someone will be literally a foot off your bumper. Then stop at an autogrill for an espresso or a beer and a mozzarella and prosciutto sandwich then back on the road at 140 Kph. In the twisty local and mountain roads move into the shoulder as you drive to let motorcycles squeeze by in the middle. They'll thank you by sticking out their right leg as they pass.

You can see the same behavior if you will just visit your local CostCo store.
You can only believe they use the same care in navigating the roads with their vehicles as they do their shopping carts in the store.

Yes there are days I hate shopping there. The people seem to think they are in the store all by themselves.

Certainly bad enough, but you know what's worse (Washington Drivers)??

How 'bout those drivers driving 45-50 MPH on a two lane State Highway who's speed limit is 60, slowing down in turns that are still rated at 60, brake lights for no reason, then..... wait for it..... when there is a passing lane they speed up to 70-75 so you can't pass them (unless you are driving 80 MPH + :) )

Thankfully, I have mastered the art of not getting worked up over the driving habits of others.

I have a friend who suffers from road rage, and once I asked him, "Do you want me to teach you how to not let the things that others do on the road bother you?" He said, "No, not really!" It was like he enjoys being upset over stuff.

And it really couldn't be easier! First, you make a list of all the things that other drivers do that annoy you the most. Then, you watch for and expect those things to happen. Lastly, you decide in advance that you'll cut them some slack when they do.

You sound like hubby when he hears me mutter something at them. He says "They're probably doing the best they can".

Nope, that's I-40 in AZ. Wife #1 commented once she'd never been off roading with a center divider as we traveled towards Flagstaff one year.

I-10 is laid in concrete sections, and most are turned up at the ends/bowed down in the middle.

I used to stop and ticket people who merely cruised in the left lane. It is blatantly unlawful here and in most states. I don't care much if people speed past me, and given the de-policing in this state, the speeds are pretty high.

A serious pet peeve is the people who are afraid of trucks, so in stead of passing one and being done with it, they will creep by at barely a little faster than the truck. They make one heck of a mess and there is no excuse for it. If I was still in LE, that would be a good stop.

BTW: I understand that trucks are a nuisance, but commerce is the priority use of the roads. Some companies govern their trucks to a set speed, and the driver has no choice about passing at an annoyingly slow speed. Those speeds are slow because of the impact on fuel mileage and stopping distance. A .01 MPG difference is a lot if you have a good sized feet of trucks averaging 12K+ miles a year.

Driving east through Knoxville on I-40. Four lanes of traffic. I'm in the third lane doing 65 slowly passing the cars in the lane to my right and being passed by cars on my left. Posted speed limit is 60 with 55 for trucks.

I come to a fairly long (200 yard) gap in the lane on my right and think I'll move across and see if anyone behind me wants to pass. Look in my mirror after indicating and there's a bloody 18 wheeler just crossed over from behind me catching up fast wanting to overtake! And his speed limit is supposedly lower than mine.

So I decide to stay just where I am.
