Dry Fire?

My Ruger MKIII 22/45 has probably been dry fired 3000 times. My Ruger 10-22 was probably dry fired at 1000 times. no problems and no damage in either case.

True, some older rimfire designs can be damaged by dry firing, but they lacked a firing pin block.

My Kel Tec P3AT manual also says not to dry fire it, but folks have dry fired them thousands of times. No harm at all.

"Why take the chance?" Because if you can become educated and find out if dry firing is harmful or not, then you can make an informed decision, not a default decision based on ignorance.

Does dry firing the 15-22 actually cause harm? Is there a firing pin block, or can the firing pin travel too far and contact?

Thanks,

Koski
