Dry fired by accident

I accidently dry fired once today !! Doh !! Can harm be done to the pin by one dry fire?

Doesn't look like dry-firing can hurt the M&P15-22. Firing pin is not long enough to strike the aft face of the chamber that I can see and the aft end of the firing pin has a shoulder on it.

The rifle has been out less than a year, though, so experience is limited.

if one dry fire hurt any .22 there would certainly be tons of them in the scrap jard.

One dry firing should not be an issue. I did however, watch the front half of the firing pin on a Colt 32 ACP fly down range one time after dry firing. Since that incident, I have been an advocate for the Do Not Dry Fire movement.

I always recommend the use of snap caps or spent cases when not using live ammo.

ha ha well it was an accident, but good to know "one" dry fire won't do anything to the pin.

just dont make a habit out of it.. ive broken many firing pins over the years in center fires and rimfires.. the bigest issue isnt the broken firing pin its the damage done to the breech.. firing pins are cheap and easy to replace barrels arnt..

Not a big deal at all. Mine has been dry fired probably 300 times without any problems. I dry fire my guns way more than I actually fire life ammo out of them and have never had a problem.
