Duck Dynasty not such a hit in NYC.

Whenever there's a Yahoo! article about these guys, I skip down to the mean, hateful, anti-southern, stereotypical rants about them from supposedly enlightened people who say they love diversity. The Robertsons are automatically called racist because they are from Louisiana. Vilified because they pray, hunt and shoot guns, and are hated because they are rich and don't deserve it. They are also always called greedy because they are rich by the same people who probably think George Clooney and Sarah Jessica Seabiscuit deserve their earnings, which they do, of course.

Much of this paragraph disturbs me.

You are okay letting the government decide the public crime level that allows indiscriminate body searches of the public.

You are okay letting the government determine if you have "legitimate business" being where you are at any given time.

You are okay with being searched anywhere and anytime in the name of 'security'.

Well I'm not okay with any of those things and I pledged my life to defend your rights and all Americans rights to prevent those types of illegal searches.

"People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both." Benjamin Franklin.

Slogans and talking points are nice, but yes, if I did have to live in a crime ridden hell hole, and I was simply a poor citizen trying to get by legally, then yes, I'm OK with this kind of community policing. Even the Chicago parents of Hadiya Pendleton, who was murdered, endorse NY's stop and frisk as one of several tactics that works to reduce violent crime.

But let's stay on topic, after all, this is a thread about hairy hicks, the Plenty family I think, and their toothless wives who were denied entry into the Ritz Carlton or the Waldorf Astoria, or where ever.

How can you make that statement.?? You have seen their wives up close and they have no teeth??

I notice you do not list your Sate of residence. Is this for a reason so no one can find you or you are embarrassed?

EDIT:

They must be false teeth:rolleyes:

These 'hairy hicks' were not denied access to the hotel, one was mistaken for someone who perhaps didn't belong there. He was profiled and escorted out. He holds no contempt, and made light of the issue.

They have lovely wives, they believe in God and they have become successful through their own volition. It is because of that, some people wish to despise them.

Those who despise people who make it on their own tend to want things provided for them instead of working for it themselves... That's my take on it anyway, from what I've seen from the haters and whiners.

I would never, could never, live in an area where people believe it is okay to be randomly searched.

Perhaps you would also agree to the random searching of houses looking for weapons and guns?

How about forced IQ tests?

Forced blood tests to determine which fetuses should be allowed to be born?

It's all for the good of the community!!!

I'll say it, it's a slippery slope when you give up basic liberties. Liberty and freedom go hand in hand.

There is a cost to living free. I am okay paying that cost.

Have we sunk so low that watching reality TV is now essential to lead life in the US?:( The phrase "Cult of Personality" springs to mind.
Im' concerned my healthcare will skyrocket even higher in the next year. My kid has to have an armed
Marine with him when he leaves his base within the base in Afghanistan since the embassy threats. All news is bad news on TV. So what's wrong with a half hour of escape watching guys shoot stuff and have fun outdoors? Just because we are discussing it here does not make it a preoccupation.
speaking of escape, my son's boss in Afghanistan has every episode of Duck Dynasty and they have a blast watching it, probably for the same reasons I mentioned above.

Lots of things that violate basic human liberty are effective at reducing crime. That's the inherent trade off between liberity and security.

Mandatory curfews would be a far more effective step than relying on police to profile people and pick and choose the bad guys at 2am. Just don't have anyone out and the whole problem is solved.

Another proven approach is having "papers" that state whether you are allowed out at that time or not, allowed to travel generally, how far you can go from your home address, that sort of thing. that was incredibly effective in the Soviet system, simply making sure people were where they were supposed to be and making sure they got approval before they started running around at night.

Yep, stop and frisk probably does reduce crime, but it does it by reducing human liberty even more.

I'm not surprised about his treatment. Most folks make initial assumptions based on looks.
As for the duck show, it's ok as far as reality shows go.
IMO, it's still a scripted plot and for entertainment purposes only but is above average for most TV shows today. I sometimes watch it with g-kids and consider it wholesome but personally I'm not a fan.

I watch it occasionally. They are pretty open about it being scripted and not a reality show in anything other than name.

They are certainly a lot more likeable than most "reality" show characters.

In my case it's her grandfather. Or great-grandfather. Still beats a slap in the chops! :D

Yes. I think it got me a $200.00 refund on a hotel bill yesterday morning too! Very cute blond at the desk refunded one night because we were leaving early. The "manager" told me that it couldn't be done because we had pre paid. The young woman looked at the bill and said "No problem!"

Southern women are not only beautiful, they are friendly. No wonder the people down there don't want Yankees resettling. :D

Okay, this thread is not even 3 month old and I think it's okay to resurrect it. I need to change my mind about it. A couple of weeks ago I caught my wife watching it (she brought home an external hard drive from deployment full of movies and TV shows). She said she was browsing through it and wanted to see what DD is all about. Well, we watched episode after episode and kinda like it.

I like these guys because they make a product other people choose to buy (unlike healthcare that you HAVE to buy), it's in the private sector, they became millionaires doing it, and they seem to be down to earth folks. It gives a little hope that that whole "American dream" thing is still possible even though people are trying real hard to kill that spirit.

And this is exactly the reason why. Even tho they have lots of money, they are still down to earth somewhat. They still do what they did before and they are having fun doing it. Si Robertson we like best for alot of reasons andI even ordered my wife his book "Si-cology," she just don't know it yet :)
