How do birds survive during a hurricane? Just wondering.

Who said they survive?
Some don’t. After replying to the thread, I did a little reading. It seems some birds find a safe place and hunker down during a severe storm. Some do bug out. Those with eggs/nest tend to stay and some of them perish.
I found an article about a researcher who had banded a number of Brown Pelicans with tracking collars before the hurricanes in 2017. They were at their breeding grounds and didn’t leave the area.
It just goes to show you, creatures tend make bad decisions when they’re trying to “hook up”!

We don't ever have seabirds around here unless there's a hurricane in the area. A bunch of them rode up here in the eye during Katrina and settled in my neighbors catfish pond...and cleaned it out. I saw a few seagulls here earlier this week but they have since gone back home.
