I have been so into revolvers this year that the semi-autos get little holster time. Carried this 4553TSW today. Its a bit chunky for only 7 rounds of .45 ACP but super reliable. Sort of like an officer size 1911 that is actually going to work every time. DAO is a nice feature for appendix carry.

Anyone else carrying a .45 ACP semi-auto?

I need to dust off mine or sell it.
I was just looking at some photos to pick a couple to post and it looks like the last time I shot it was January, 2017.
It's a great gun for sure.
I really like the S&W DAO guns and at one time I had two 4046s, a 1086, a 3953, a 4053, and the 4553.
I'm down to only the 4553 and the 3953 now.

justicetyme, I recommend that you dust it off for awhile before selling. It is harder and harder to find these early 4553. I had two and let one go a couple years ago. Regretted it shortly thereafter and picked up a couple 457s to make myself feel better. The 4553 will never be primary in the carry rotation but it will never be fore sale.

That's a seriously nice rig.

When I got my 4513TSW I at first almost got the 4553TSW. The DAO definitely has advantages over the TDA but I still don't have regrets. Same capacity as my CS45, a little bigger but for me it just feels and points better. Size and weight wise the compact 45TSW's actually compare better to the smaller Defender than the Officer.

I like the pre-rail 4553TSWs too. You lose one round over the later railed TSWs (6 -vs -7) but that many rounds of 185gr (+P) should stop anything you hit. There's always extra mags.

Heck, I mainly carry my .357 M340PD, with a spare speedclip, so that wouldn't deter me.

But I'm spoiled. Anything larger, & heavier, than a J-frame is work. :p

I have a 4506 with adjustable sights and a 4586 that I carry once and a while. I can't remember if a CS45 or a 4006 got me into collection 2ND & 3RD Gen Smiths but my CS45 was my EDC for years back in the 2000's.

Yup!

This 4506 is my #1 go to carry piece. Trijicon sights, decock only, spurless hammer, 20# flatwire recoil spring setup and some stippling to improve the grip. Stoked up with RA45T +P.

Soon as my workload lightens up a touch I going to drill & tap the frame for this set of Nills grips I have here with that have some stunning figure and the texture that Nill does on the walnut mirrors my stippling. Double bonus:cool:

Went camping last month and a buddy forgot his pistol at home, somewhat secluded area so protection is suggested. Got my 4553 out of the safe, was a Buds guns buy 10+ years ago for a low low price, told him i had replaced the springs, refreshed the night sights, and it shot dead on. End of camping he wanted to try it so he shot off a couple rounds down in a creek bed,no it's not for sale buddy

I carry a Para Officer size LDA (double action with only) 1911. However, do you still have the Smith & Wesson 4553 TSW? I too have an affinity for Smith & Wesson 3rd generation DAO pistols and would be interested in acquiring the .45.
