Hello everyone!
My very 1st purchase of a S&W was a LNIB (looks unfired) model 908 (blued) with 2 mags, original box, paperwork. I bought this model 908 off GunBroker and should be in my possession by next Fri/Sat. I am excited to clean/lube it up and run some rounds down range.

I have never owned a S&W handgun (or anything made by S&W) so it is fitting that I started off by owning a classic. If all goes well, and I have no reason not to think so, I will use this 908 for my CCW.

After researching, reading, scrolling several forums I made the decision to buy the 908 (overwhelming positive reviews for the 908/3913 models). I have also ordered:
Stainless Steel Guide Rod
New Recoil Spring
Hogue rubber grip (for 908/3913)
DeSantis Soft Tuck IWB holster (just to try it out)

Of course, I will post some pics once I have it! (I knew you were asking for them......I can read minds :) )

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum. I'm looking forward to see some pictures.

Congrats, I own a 908 and love it. A quick note of caution, you might hold off on putting in the stainless guide rod and shoot the pistol for a while just like it came from the factory, some of these still have a warranty and you might void it with a lot of mods till you shoot it some on your own. Springs and guide rod are not a must for these pistols and can always install them at a later date....John

you're gonna like that little flat single stack!

This is what has me intrigued about the 908/3913 models. I have a fullsize (5") 1911 chambered in 45acp, and really like the single stack (slim) grip. I looked into a 3"-3.5" carry 1911 in 9mm or 45acp, but those were $$$ and the ammo is pricey too (45acp).

The model 908 is compact with 3.5" barrel & has a single stack 8rd mag, bobbed hammer, safety/decock lever and is DA/SA and shoots 9mm. Sounds perfect. The 3913 model just seemed slightly different, but were fetching another $200 on top of the going rates for 908's.......so I will try the 908.

I'm sure you'll be happy with your purchase. I have the exact same set up minus the guide rod. The DeSantis soft tuck has a nice snug fit, plus the adjustable cant allows you to try different carry options. I like appendix carry, so I ended up trimming down my holster a bit.

Well, the wait is over! I picked up my S&W 908 from my FFL dealer on Saturday evening.

The 908 is in GREAT condition.....looks like it was used very little and might have spent most of its life in a safe or nightstand.

I did a complete field strip (not too bad) and gave it a thorough cleaning and lube. While it was apart, I changed out the RECOIL SPRING with a new one from S&W and I also replaced the plastic GUIDE ROD with the Stainless Steel version from the 3913 model.

Next, which turned out to be a real job, was the Hogue Grips. Wow. Took me about 30 minutes to install these. The mainspring "push pin" was the biggest problem in the entire install......but it finally went thru the Hogue set-up.

Overall, I like the 908.....now I need to shoot it. Of the 2 Factory Mags......my vote is for the extended finger groove magazine for better fit/function for me. So, I will be looking for one to buy in the near future to have 2 of those.

Pictures will come soon. I have to upload them!

The wife has a 908 and we both like it. I agree the plastic guide rod is wimpy, and I also would like to replace it. Did you get the guide rod from S&W also. Approx what's the cost on replacement steel guide and spring?

Here are the pictures I promised of my S&W 908. Again, I bought it off GunBroker and I got it for $305.00 To me, it seems pretty much like new and hardly shows any signs of use. The previous owner kept every piece of paper work that came with the gun, including the original S&W trigger lock! Now, I need to get to the range!

**HERE IS THE NEW Stainless Steel GUIDE ROD INSTALLED (new recoil spring too)**

**The Original Owner kept everything that came with the 908, which was a nice bonus!!

***The SS Guide Rod and Recoil Spring were ordered from www.midwayusa.com and cost about $12.00 total for BOTH items, which I thought was pretty cheap for the upgrades.
