So, I had been looking for a clean Chief's Special locally for quite a while with varied luck. The largest problem centered around most people with a nice one thought they were made of platinum with diamond encrusted internals.

Of all places, I spied her in the Cabela's Gun Library (normally waaay high $$$) for a decent price. $500

Welcome home.
With her magna's:

With her new Altamonts:

Entered into carry rotation as my new pocket gun.

She's a 36-7 w/ a serial number BPR45** ... I've been told she was shipped in 1993. Correct?

Interesting aftermarket stocks. Magnas with a T-grip make a nice combination too, but not the only one, by any means. I used Pachmayr Compacs for years and I still think they're the most comfortable grips for shooting full-power loads. That's a good looking Chief you've got there. I still remember when I got mine and I know I had a blast shooting it in informal challenge matches against my friend with his PPK/s. (I almost always beat him. ;)) They're great little revolvers. Congratulations on your new .38! :)

Welcome to the forum from Central Ohio....you'll find it to be quite addicting as this is a great group of well-informed enablers....

That 36 is a beauty and will serve you well.

(BTW - you've already passed the first test by posting photos)

You all must pay a lot for guns in West Virginia. Around here the 36 comes up all the time in the $250-$350 range which is probably why I have a dozen of them. This nickel one from the 1970's came up for $200 a couple of months ago. It was badly in need of cleaning to the point it was black and didn't even look like nickel which is why I got it so cheap. I did replace the cylinder for $35 which added a bit to my cost. Not a perfect gun, but great for the price.

Nice M36. I have one, from '76.

The M36 is my favorite J, perfect in every way. Pocketable, easy to carry, and just enough weight to practice with comfortably. My preference is with the stock grips bare, no T, no nothing, stock.

Very nice bumpus! What kind of pockets do those grips fit in? I'm not big guy, but I find that my 442 with the factory rubber boot grips are about as big as I can go in my dress pants for church. The handle comes close to the opening of my pocket. Good thing it's all black. LOL. I'm sure I could fit much larger grips in cargo pants pockets though. But the only time I carry pocket is when dressed up for church. The rest of the time I AIWB.

Nice score. I got a great deal on this 36 no dash a couple of years ago. And although I love how it looks with the factory grips and Tyler, the grip is way too small to be usable for me. I need a much larger grip to shoot these well.

Your grip choice is something I would go with if I was going to carry mine (but I've got lighter J's for that).

Mainly in cargo shorts (warm weather) - she's a bit tight in jeans pockets, but manageable. Although when it's colder weather, I prefer OWB ... Usually in a Desantis Mini Scabbard (9mm Shield) I've ordered another for the Chief, so I'll have to see if she rides as nicely on the hip in one as well. Fingers crossed that I won't have to fill another drawer searching for the right leather.

Yeah, unfortunately the magna's have always abused my hands to the point where I don't even want to shoot them. I do need to try out a T-grip with them at some point, but I keep getting distracted by larger grips overall.

I'm quite fond of my J's too...

The 36's travel back and forth to the range.

The 60's are for EDC/CCW.

Great looking J's in this thread. J-frames are my favorite hand guns. Here's my 36 that I just got this week.
