I've been after this one for two and a half years. A friend of a friend saw it in a South Carolina shop and sent phone photos to me.

At the time the shop owner wouldn't mess with shipping. As I've followed the the listing and the shop I noticed a change last year -- "we ship" was now part of the pitch.

I called. The son had taken over the shop. We made a deal. I got it not long before Christmas 2025.

It's not flawless, and it came with no amenities, but it's the third one we know of the company shipped early in the Bodyguard's history. This one went to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company in Chicago, Illinois, on March 16, 1956.

I must inject Roy G. Jinks' book, History of Smith & Wesson, says Smith & Wesson made 2,422 Bodyguards on the four-screw frame starting at serial number 66000 in the Chiefs Special serial series. So far none of those have appeared in the wild. The hunt continues.

Bodyguard 74342, March 16, 1956, better.webp
