Early mod 41 help needed

I looked at a mod 41 7 3/8 with muzzle break tonight. Lighting was not good, but the gun looked nice from what I could see.
Serial # 28xxx.

Always wanted one, but never did. I have narrowed it down to 1959 -60 production. I am having trouble with my K22 open sights and want to know about a red dot sight for the 41. I know the later ones came with a provision for mounting one, and I know drill and tapping an early 41 is a no no. Can a red dot be mounted on an early 41 without screwing it up?

I would not screw it up.

Leave as is. Buy an extra barrel, which are available
and already drilled and tapped.
