Earthquake

Question...
Are quakes covered by homeowners insurance ?

A separate, not cheap, insurance rider. High deductible. When this house was built, the code required earthquake straps to the foundation. A big risk isn't the sticks coming apart, but the whole house sliding off the foundation. Straps reduce that risk. Stick built houses fare better than masonry. They'll move, while masonry breaks.

My sister lives in Ramsey NJ, and she tells me she watched her heavy chair walk across the floor.
