Guys/Gals,

Just wanted to share my recent experience with this great rifle. I started using high end, 168 grain bullets when I first got this rifle based on what I read. And my results were fairly decent.

However, after a good 300-500 round break in, it's running smooth. I've been running the cheap stuff, low grain, etc and no FTF's at all. Yesterday I put about 200 rounds down range with white box xm80 7.62x51 NATO, $13 and change per 20 rounds and it ate it up flawlessly.

Has anyone else noticed this after a good break in? I didn't save my targets but I had good groupings at 100 yards.

I've just been making sure it is run really wet and cleaning after every use. I'm loving this rifle. Next up is running it with a suppressor but I'm in hold mode for the NFA! Can't wait.

May even consider a non stock trigger. Overall, happy. Hope you are all experiencing the same. Safe shooting.

I've never had a feeding problem with mine. Everyone who has shot it loves it, Including the accuracy. I run mine wet as well.

I enjoy mine immensely and wet as well LOL. One thing to know, if all M&P 10 rifles are created equal, proper OAL for the bullet is critical if you hand load. I thought 2.780" would work nicely for 150 FMJ bullets based upon threads related to M1A's (other websites). Uhhh - not true at least for mine. Otherwise, mine's a bit hard on case rims. No other warnings or complaints from me. The gun's a winner :)

No problems so far. I love this gun. Being of a slightly larger stature than most, (six four , 265 ) this gun fits me well. Do not get me wrong , I also love my Sport, but the first time I picked the 10 up I knew I had to have it. It is sweet to shoot. A couple weeks ago I picked up a new scope for it. A Redfield Revenge 4-12 x 42 with the Accu-Ranger. Am Hoping to bench her this week end.

That ZQ1 stuff is still at my wally world for ten bucks a box!

Nato spec, runs good! My gun is srill at S%W because it will not hit the broad side of a barn reguardless of ammo!

I got bored and bought another "little" gun to supplement my old A1 style Colt SP1, flat top DPMS Oracle for 550 bucks!

And since the big 10 is in the shop, I put the 14X scope on it to run it in, and at 50 yds it is like a drill, punching a hole the size of a quarter with Federal 223, even with the krummy stock trigger!

After dragging out the old SP1, I shot better groups with the irons at 100 than the big 10 has done with the 14X at 3-4 inches.

I hope they fix it, been weeks now and no word!

Dude!! I had no idea you were having so much trouble with your 10. Sorry to hear that. Any idea when it's coming home? Dying to find out what's wrong with it. I shot mine again yesterday but only up to 100 yds. Groupings are ok, mostly user experience!

Keep us posted. Safe shooting.

Jay

That's what I love about mine, it gets the best groups out of the cheap Prvi white box 145gr.

See if it will run cheap Tula of Monarch steel, or Wolf! You never know what you may need to use!

I spoke with one very knowledgeable source who stated clearly that the gas port needs to be at ..075 on mid length 308. Mine was factory at .068 and would not run lower powered stuff. I took it to .073 and it worked, just how close to the edge I am not sure, just saying.

So Cope...Are you suggesting I (and others) open up the gas port to .078? I haven't thought of it and I suppose it can't hurt. Is there any reason this would have a negative effect on the rifle?

I've run hundreds of rds of tula and wolf through my mp10 with zero issues except a bad or backwards primer every now and then. Mine will eat anything, steel cased, brass, soft point,145g-175g it loves it all. I can get 1.5" groups at 100yds with tula and just over 1" with ZQ1. All my mp rifles eat anything i feed them and spit it out accurately.

That's awesome to hear Red Dragon! Psyched for you. Thanks for the post.

I would be suggesting that if you have issues you may want to apply the .075 port size. Others on here have reported the rifles being under gassed. I even called S&W at one time to ask if anything had changed in production as time has gone on, they said no, but if one was sent in and it worked fine with US commercial brass ammo, they would just return it with no changes. That tells me they could care less if it runs cheap steel reliably!

That number seems common on many .223 barrels as well it seems, so I cannot see a downside to it.

On .223 guns, one can tell gas balance easily enough it seems with the ejection pattern varing from about 1-5 oclock with over/ under gassing, 3-4 oclock being more the ideal. Same principal applies to the .308 gun, but I hav not enough testing or evidence to know the the exact 3-4 oclock thing is the same, as I have been running a brass catcher.
