EDC for the wife??

The stainless steel guide rod using only the large spring from the factory RSA makes the slide significantly easier to rack if you're interested in something like this.

Interesting. How many rounds do you have through that gun and what ammo? I would have concerns about reliable function and damage to the gun.

400 rounds before the install, about 100 rounds since. A mix of American Eagle ball, Remington UMC, and three different kinds of PD ammo. All function with no problems.

Just did the Rastoff challenge today with UMC rounds and shot the rest of the box with no problems. If anything does crop up though I'll be sure to post about it. I'll probably put two or three hundred more rounds through it this summer and fall.

Man, I think the model 642 is one of the best bets going. I love mine. It's light, super easy to conceal, and +P .38's ain't no joke. Only 5 shots, but in an emergency, bring it. The Crimson Trace option is great for the intimidation factor too. Nothing like a laser pointed at you that means business. Just my .02

My wife has a 442 and Shield 9mm. She carries the 442 for now. She is still working on getting completely comfortable with the Shield before it becomes her carry weapon. 300 rounds so far and she is progressing well. I insist that she can handle all malfunctions correctly before it goes on her person. She shoots it very well and has no problem operating the action. I have been shooting it some while she is at work to help break in the spring and mags. It really helps! Good luck.

My wife carries a Gen3 Glock 26 mostly, she also has her former duty gun ( Gen2 Glock 19) and a Colt Agent on her CCW permit. She carries the Glocks in a leather purse made by Pistol Packin' Mama's. The Colt Agent gets pocket carried when the pockets cooperate .... ;o)

My better half is veery picky! I have a mod. 36,60, she didn't like the weight, I got her a LCR, likes the weight, she prefers a MP 22compact. Not the best cal. But she CCW carries it! I got her a shield and put a green virirden auto on laser and she loves it!! But I now have no shield!!! But got the MP 22C back!

I wish my wife would carry. :(

She's one of those who think that nothing bad will ever happen to her in her life. She won't even carry to protect the kids.[emoji35]

My wife is pretty much the same way .. No kids but have the grand kids. She say well your home or with us most of the time ... I tell her its the rest of the time that worries me. Likes the fact I carry but says no desire to herself .

Wondering what gjc2128 wife decided on ?? Or has she yet ?

she i still deciding. She is training with my Shield now but have been renting out the bodyguard and lc9 lately at the range. She says when shes ready she"ll know.....lol!

Something to consider is whether or not she can operate it effectively by herself and shooting it one handed. It's relatively common for some to start experiencing malfunctions when shooting one handed. That is something I think more people(especially woman) carrying small autoloaders need to test out since shooting in an actual defense scenario is very different from the range. It's common to have to shoot one handed, with a less than ideal grip and while moving during defense scenarios.

My wife loves her Smith & Wesson Model 642-2 "Ladysmith". She is a very good shot with short barrel revolvers. She carries it everywhere.

My wife carries this DAO Ruger SP101 loaded with a good +P .38spl defense round as shown. It's simple to operate and heavy enough that recoil is not an issue.

That Ruger is one sweet carry....especially for a woman w purse...the simple reliable design of a revolver coupled with Ruger reliability and ease of readiness makes that a great choice

I would say that the best thing to do is put anything and everything in her hands that you can, and let her fire everything you can. She'll know what feels good to her, and that should be the deciding factor. Everyone's hands are a bit different, and only she can tell you what is comfortable for her to shoot.

When all was said & done mine ended up with her dad's Colt Cobra after we had spent time & money renting 9s and .380s of every description.
