I agree. I hope she can get her head straight. I can't even begin to imagine the horror she endured.

I agree with you, she is strong etc. Now that said, I want to add, there are plenty more here! The differance is she wasnt raised a poligamist and was outright kidnapped. The other poligamists girls here that are raised in it are brainwashed in the religion from birth. I doubt a 16 year old girl really wants to marry a 55 year old goat that she is commanded to marry. Even being raised that way, a very few have broke away and ran off. Not many, but a few. If you recall elizabeth was sitting at a libary with the couple and a suspiscious detective started to question them for ID. She did not blow it when she could have. Was this the stockholm syndrem the same as patty hurst had?
I know it doesnt look like it, but I am not saying this to take away anything from elizabeth, as she is brave getting up in front of the world testifing her ordeal. I brought it up from the viewpoint of many unsung and unprotected poligamists girls in that a view of what is happening right under the nations noses, needs their noses rubbed into it again.
The eldorado texas raid two years ago failed----miserabley, due to the fact that liberals in this country all protested so heavily that huge pressure was brought down to ease off and bury the facts. The sorry thing is that the people that hollered about it never looked deep at the true facts. All that they saw and fixed on was the screaming kids and crying mothers. It was ugly! The entire cause was overlooked and buried and many if not all girls born into the FLDS and splinter groups are destened to live their lives out just like the moslem girls in the mid east.
Did you know that the main belief of poligamy of the FLDS and muslem belief in plural marrages are EXACTLY the same? And from everything I have researched they treat their women the same? Something to think about, aint it?

This case serves to highlight why it is a bad idea to have bums do day labor for you at your home. The kidnapper had done some handy-man work for the father on several occasions. Undoubtedly, he cased the house well (even knew where the ladder was stored) and shopped for his next victim. He was even planning on taking more children from the family (a cousin maybe?).
This wasn't Elizabeth's fault or her family's fault, but they had their guard down enough that it gave a criminal the opportunity he was looking for. I think that is called "condition white".

I've been impressed with her throughout the trial, but there is no doubt she'll have mental scars for life.

She's a very pretty young woman who seems to be holding up pretty well. I kind of surprises me some young Morman buck hasn't chased her down and married her. Her family is very supportive from what I can read.
This case has come back to the forefront of the news. If you've been reading the Salt Lake Trib you get the entire testimony. Its a shame they didn't just kill the scumbag. I have very little sympathy for his wife who helped in this crime. They both need to die. Lucky the Feds came to the rescue and prosecuted the case. The local prosecutor flubbed it and probably would have allowed the guy to end up in a mental hospital instead of the hell hole he deserves.

She's not married just yet because she is serving an LDS mission in France. She was in France when the trial began and will return there to finish her 18 month commitment. It is impressive that she feels no remorse or anger towards the faith that she has been raised in. I think many people would abandon their prior beliefs after having something tragic happen to them and justifiably so. But not only did she not do that, but she made a greater commitment to her faith by choosing to serve a mission for 18 months of her life sharing what she values greatly with those in another culture. And trust me, preaching Mormonism in any European country is not easy.
We should all be grateful for her family and the positives that have come from this tragedy. After this took place her father became very committed to legislation in regards to a national Amber Alert system which has likely already helped to save the lives of many children in this country. Ed Smart was instrumental in getting that pushed through and made a priority. He reminds me very much of Mr. Walsh from America's Most Wanted. I can't help but think of the heartache that these two fathers have suffered and then be grateful for their efforts to protect my children and those in our country.

We don't need the electric chair in this country. What we need is electric bleachers. We could fill a stadium full of these guys daily and fry em en mass, and still have a bunch left over. What in the hell has happened here in this country.

We got all touchy-feely and political correct. Sometimes the old ways are far superior. A pillowcase full of doorknobs administered by a properly indignant person would solve a lot of problems.
I know, along will come someone to tell me I should have some sympathy for the less fortunate. But it really doesn't matter much because the fool has been molesting young girls all along. And he never had any comeuppance. Maybe his fellow inmates in the prison system will do the world a favor and rid us of his presence. There just seem to be some crimes so bad there is no reason to continue supporting him in this world. With this jerk, there is no question at all that he committed the crimes. He's just a master manipulator who wants to get out and keep up his crimes. I'm not sure why they want to waste my tax dollars keeping him alive and comfortable.

I'm almost tempted to take that bet, but only because of the absolute it contains.
We definitely hear about more of it due to the 24/7 news cycle as you said, but I suspect the near demise of the family core, moral values in general and the myriad of other societal declines in over the past few generations has increased the number of people that actually act upon their self gratifying fantasies, or whatever doing such things is called by the politically correct. I may be wrong, but parallels can be seen in many areas of our everyday life.
Also,I believe the death penalty is constitutional, so I'm not against it, but for child molesters and those of similar ilk, I believe having "Bubba" for a cellmate for the rest of evil-doers life is closer to true justice.
My heart and prayers go out to Elisabeth and the others who have, or are enduring a similar fate.
