Elvis Movie

I watched it last weekend. The kid who plays Elvis, Austin Butler, is astonishing. I really enjoyed it.

I went and saw it today, it was a good movie the Elvis actor was great. Learned a few things that I did not know. A sad end of life for a very talented man. According to a special I watched that had his daughter and ex-wife on it, this is an extremely accurate portrayal of his life

Elvis appeared at the Bayfront Center in 1975 (St. Petersburg, Florida).
My squad was station in front of the stage. At the end when Elvis started throwing the scarves out to the audience, the young girls, mature girls, mothers, and grandmothers stormed the stage sweeping us cops aside like we were not even there. I had my eye glasses knocked off but a sweet young lady picked them up and put them back on my face. How Elvis got into that white suit is a mystery as he had put on some serious pounds.

I liked Elvis. He was a great entertainer. But I've never understood the fanaticism surrounding him.
I was born and raised in Memphis. Yet I have never been to an Elvis concert nor have I ever been to Graceland. I just don't get it.

I lived in Memphis for a number of years but only saw Elvis out and around town once. He was riding his three wheeler and was accompanied by a couple of other bikers.

At the time I was working for an international grain export company. Not surprisingly, most of our business was conducted over the phone. We were essentially closed down the day Elvis died. The Memphis phone system simply froze up from all the calls.

Graceland and His aircraft are worth seeing. Car museum is interesting especially how he bought his first Caddy.

One year back in the mid-1990s for my birthday I treated myself to a trip to Graceland. I still have the T-shirt and sunglasses I bought on the trip. I was really impressed with how the management tried to cater to the middle class tourist. The food, admissions and souvenirs all seemed to represent a good value and the prices all seemed reasonable. That trip was definitely something I crossed off my bucket list before "bucket list" became a term.

I went to Graceland once, I thought it was worth it. On the tour one stop was a windowless room in an outbuilding that had a big stump in it. If you looked at it closely it was full of bullets.

The guide said Elvis and his posse would open the door to the room and shoot at the stump from out in the courtyard. On the way out of the room I had to look.....yup, the pockmarks were painted over but you could see a lot of hits where a bunch of the boys managed to miss the doorway and hit the building. Seemed kind of unsafe.

Given his status that wasn't much of a house by today's standards.

I remember that!
