OK, the first reply left me partially confused, but this reply has really lost me
Could you please explain that? I'm looking to purchase a 629 and I want one with the Endurance Package in it. Is there any way to determine that by the model # of the revolver?
On the first reply, those dash numbers are when the endurance package was introduced on those models.
So yes, any dash numbers after those will also have the endurance package.
Just go by the dash number that is stamped on the frame, which can be seen when you open the cylinder. It will have the 629 - (dash number) or 29 - (dash number)

Nice way to get more than 10 characters.
I passed on a 629-1 earlier in the week because it lacked the Endurance Package. Does it really make a big difference though?

I have a 629-1 that I really enjoy shooting. I use moderate loads in it. It is a very accurate gun with a great trigger. If I need to fire or test hot 44 mag loads, I have my Redhawk for that. A 629-1 is not the strongest 44 revolver out there, but unless you are a recoil junky it is more than adequate. I would not sell or trade mine.

That sounds very reasonable, Dragon. I guess the used market scares me a bit though because who knows what was done to the gun earlier.

Ahh yes, the used Magnum market. Be very wary of a gun that the previous owner shot to pieces and then is trying to get rid of. I handled a Super Blackhawk last month that was loser than any Smith I've ever seen. Thinking about what someone was shooting in that poor gun makes me cringe.

629 is a stainless steel revolver, and the 29 is chrome moly blued steel. The "6" denotes the stainless series.

Despite it's inclusion of an IL, a new current production 629-6 has several benefits, including all of the 'endurance' enhancements and you know it's history.
Condition is subjective. For example, this could be described as 'shot to pieces':
It could also be listed as 'Used... some holster wear' or '629MG kit gun'.

It isn't that hard to check for wear. Cylinder lock up is my first check. If that doesn't pass, I move to the next gun.
