Speed shooters specialties and Apex Tactical all make parts to make the M&P a competition shooter. As I just watched on TV on Shooting USA!.. Who has done any of the upgrades to a M&P? With these done can it equal a Glock competition gun!?

I have a M&P9. I've got Apex's DCAEK with the stock trigger return spring in for a trigger pull under five pounds. Also four mags with Arredondo extended base plates, makes for a great setup. Everyone who's pulled the trigger loves it. My biggest problem is proper trigger control now, I find myself pulling shots low, cost me two no shoot penalties this last Saturday.

Installed the apex hard sear and firing pin block kit in mine, makes a considerable difference, the tactile feel of the trigger reset is not near as strong as the glock reset though, depends on what you like, very subjective.

The 4 lbs. factory trigger on my M&P 40 Pro Series feels great to me. I tried my neighbors standard M&P trigger and I see why everyone replaces at least the seer on it.

I just put the Comp. AEK kit in today, very smooth, all the gritt feel is gone, I also put in a ram, very positive reset. Trigger pull is about 2.5 lbs - Feels like a different gun

We are stuck in MASS with real bad triggers. MASS law is that the gun comes with a 10 Lb trigger. Most guns come from the factory with a trigger pull higher then that. Real gritty and bad pull.

I had Greg Derr do trigger jobs on both of mine, a M&P 40 FS and a M&P 40c.

He does great work.

Is the sear alone going to remove the grittiness? I think the sear will only reduce the distance needed to release the shot.

Isn't the grittiness caused by the not-so-smooth slave pin that holds/release the firing pin? I may be wrong ... others please jump in.

The best I can tell the striker block has a lot to do with the grittiness, as I installed parts I re- assmbled to see what each individual part did to the feel of the gun, the grit was gone after the striker block.

I have ordered the Apex Kit but I am also installing a new safety lever from Cane and Derby, Cane and Derby Smith & Wesson M&P Profiled Safety Levers. They are trimmed down to a slimmer profile than the factory safeties. The factory safety hits me in the back just above the belt line when I wear my Uncle Mikes IWB, and yes I could just reposition or get get a new holster, but one of my other holsters disengages the safety when it clears the edge of the nylon, not something I am happy about either. I have the full size M&P40 so for $40 extra I am adding a new safety lever while I have everything apart for the Apex Kit. I'll let you all know how it does when I get it installed.

Could be... but the reset on my friends M&P was way too long & I hate a long trigger reset. My pro trigger, & his new trigger job that he got on his gun, reduced the reset to just a bare movement of the trigger back to the starting position. I assume the grittiness was also taken out with buffing the surfaces that were left rough by the factory (why they leave these surfaces that rough is baffling to me) & replacing springs, etc. I didn't pull my neighbors gun a part, so I don't know what was replaced & what was buffed smooth. If it's like my Sigma then it is every part that makes contact with another moving part that needs attention. My Sigma also resets when the trigger has been returned to the absolute beginning position. That really does bother me. I haven't worked on it because I don't use it enough to fool with it & I want to keep it OEM if I decide to sell so I won't be sued when someone kills somebody & blames it on the trigger that I worked on.

I've put the Apex parts in my M&P 9 Pro and have been very happy with the results.
