Enough to make you cry

I agree as I wouldn't want to be caught with someone else's gun in my possesion as I just don't need the hassle especially when I have not done anything wrong. If there is no owner registered you can then have it transferred legally into your name as well If it is used murder gun then the police would certainly like to have it off of the street for sure.

Just a quick update - the gun is in much worse shape than the picture shows. There is virtually NO rifling left. The slide is BADLY pitted, some spots nearly through. I'm not going to attempt any revival, just leave it as a conversation piece - like the 27 I have with all six 158gr, SWC lodged in the extremely bulged barrel (not my doing). The area where it was found is a popular pig hunting area, I'm quite sure some unlucky fella had a holster malfunction.

Hello Gary,
That one is pretty far gone and S&W will not warranty it,
I highly doubt the lifetime warranty era guns are covered from being left in the weather for X number of years as well.

AS Floridians we are lucky to have access to a free database maintained by the FDLE.
I had a handgun stolen in 1986 and was surprised the serial came up after all those years.
If that gun was reported stolen in FL it will be in the database.

My guess is since there was no magazine it was probably tossed.
You would be surprised how many people want guns to go away for legit reasons as well as nefariouse,
Not everybody sees a handgun as a valuable commodity,
Many inherited firearms are simply turned in at the local PD for destruction by family members that dont like guns, others are buried, tossed into waterways, forrests or simply into the trash.

All you guys prompting him to call the cops - think a little. Do you 'spose that there's just a whole lot of rifling left in the bore? That the firing pin tip will give up beautiful microscopeic lines, all un-touched by time/water?

You guys watch too much TV.

Cat

Don't you supposed that question is better answered by forensic examination, rather than supposition?

Holy S**T..what happened?? lol

Those of us who are or have been cops are having a hard time figuring out why the police have not been notified. It is not like they are going to confiscate a nice gun that you won't get back! My gut tells me it was dumped!
