Hi Guys
Just looking for a little advice really. I have found an eotech 553 for sale locally it is second hand but looks clean and in good repair. My question is is it REALLY worth the £400 that guy is asking.

Year of manufacture is 2006 which seems a little old for the price he asking.

Have to keep in mind these are pretty hard to find genuine ones over here.

Any thoughts on this would be very helpful.

Thanks all in advance

Mark. :)

Thanks for that Keith. You have to try. And asking for advice is in my book always a good idea. Especially as the forum is full of potential hints and tips about said items.

Thanks for the links, have looked at tactical something or other but they out of stock ATM. Tho I have decided not to go for the used one. I think I shall hang in till cash is in sufficient supply to buy new. Though the way I spending at present it may be a while. Haha. When I eventually get it something like how I want it I may even add a pic.

Once again. Thanks.

Mark. :D

Are you putting it on a 15-22 ?

Just my opinion here so take it for what it is worth lol but I would be looking at Primary Arms. The stuff they sell is more than good enough to put on a .22 & you will be hard pressed to find an outfit with better customer service. I would have a hard time spending $400-500 on a sight for a .22 that is not known to be real accurate to start with.

Hi CJ
A very good point and after looking at the website for primary arms I am again seeing that they do not ship international. So yet again I find that a cheaper alternative is not available direct to UK from main supplier. ( damn ITAR again I guess). Will have a look now for some one who could ship to UK and see if can find something that way.

Thanks for the opinion and I will keep in mind your comments. :)

Rob ;) i spoke with Ann at Tactical something or other only

last week, they have an order of Eotech's arriving like as now.

they carry a 12 months warranty not the 2 year warranty as

they don't come from Elite Defence:D......Its not unusual the

Eotech taking 10 to 12 weeks from your order date for them

to arrive:(.............you will get a few slating having such an expensive sight on the 1522,

but with me i went for a cheapish reliable rifle and Eotech because i can

The quest continues!

As mentioned, if you want an Eotech and don't need NV capability, then IMO the XPS2 is the best one to go for on the 15-22. Less cost; lightest weight in the Eo range; smallest footprint (leaves space on receiver for magnifier & BUIS); absolute co-witness as standard, and comes with the updated transverse battery compartment. Add to that the fact that you can get new, warrantied stock in the UK!

Otherwise (and unless you can get hold of an Aimpoint Patrol or similar), my recommendation for sub-Eo red dots is the Vortex SPARC. Ran a SP & VMX3 mag on my 15-22 for a couple of years with no problems and a lot of fun! Only went with an XPS as I wanted to have the same setup as on my 9mm carbine.

That, and that the 65 moa ring & 1 moa dot is sooo good :D

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. The quest does indeed continue!! Lol. Wanna try and get the balance right for cost and function. I want to be able to have fun and be reasonably accurate ( pest control at night) but if I want to be punching nails I will always return to my CZ.
This quest is mostly just about gathering the info and purchasing the right sight at the right price. Money isn't something I generally worry about ( I tend to think along lines of I earn so I spend as I see ) but I don't want to spend massive in a .22 fun gun. If that makes sense. But at same time I want to maintain the platform credibility and function.

Thanks so far guys. Keith / Rich as ever, helpful and informative. We should all hook up for some plinking giggles???? Would be a blast. Literally. Haha

Thank You for not taking my post the wrong way, I was a little worried about how that would come across. A damn shame about the PA not shipping international but I'd shoot Marshall at PA an e-mail, that dude is an awesome fella & I've heard of him bending over backwards to satisfy his customers...you never know what might could be worked out

Buy an Aimpoint. They are made in Sweden or such place and not subject to ITAR.

And a better sight.

KBK

Are you sure, KBK?

AFAIK, I thought that the insidious grip of ITAR stretched across such boundaries, making anything that the US see fit to put on the ITAR register as being controlled (and with the potential for legal action) irrespective of country of manufacture/purchase. As such, I thought that Aimpoints (even though of Swedish manufacture) came under ITAR just the same as Eotech, Trijicon et al...?

With the latest (Jan 2014) updates to ITAR, I think that even includes non-US citizens selling any ITAR restricted items to other non-US citizens anywhere in the world (e.g. anyone in the UK selling their second hand Eotech to someone else outside of the US!). NWO anyone...!?

Well that just plain stinks lol

Well then Rob oughta get whatever Rob wants...good for him

CJ, Keith, Rich.
Many thanks guys. The ITAR rules really are a pain. I wish I could have what I want but alas it's not to be. Otherwise I would have a regular gas operated AR. Lol

Keith, wifey generally does not mind as long as I ensure everything else is paid on time. However there are some cabinet secrets that are mine alone! Lmao.

I don't mind paying fair price for what I want but don't like being ripped outrageously just because it's hard to get something. If that actually makes sense.

But I am seeing the frustration of sourcing what I want. Everything sea easy to find but not So easy to purchase. Lol.

I will like Arthur, continue my quest until I find what I want or get so fed up I quit ( but then I don't do quitting so could be a long ride).

As a Foot note I don't easily get offended by things. But sometimes the guys on here can get very intense on some subjects. Which does crack me up. Especially when it's a question about something technical.

Keep it coming guys. Don't be shy. If you have an insight to a good optic feel free to share. ( as long as it's available on the UK side of the pond)

The EOTech is really overkill for the 15-22... spending more on the sight than the weapon is barely worth is insane!! lol...

I would suggest something like the Bushnell 1x25 AR Optics TRS-25 HiRise Red Dot Sight... You should be able to get it and it resembles the Aimpoint Red Dot without a $600 price tag.

Error

For that matter, a lot of the high-end Airsoft devices function well on the 15-22 due to it's low recoil.

I've used this model from China and it has never lost zero... it has an RMR, Killflash and true fiber optic reticle. Its a Trijicon replica and comes with all markings. Made of Aluminum and is very sturdy. It also arrived in a week. I know you will get some of the "Cheap Chinese ****" responses... but I am telling you from experience that it works great.

Here's another red dot I've tried... Solar/Battery, made well from Aluminum. Again, another Trijicon replica.

Solid 1x38 SRS Style 1 75 MOA Solar Power Reflex Red Dot Sight Scope w QD Mount | eBay

I will say, the Aimpoint Airsoft replicas from China are good, but the mounts they come with are very low quality. They bend too easy and begin to wobble.

Just an suggestion...

Hi King

Thanks for that input. There is a guy near me, ( bout 20 miles or so) who does a huge selection of the copy ACOG set ups. With jut about all configurations you can think of. His EBay figures and feed back are good. But I was / am just a little apprehensive about spending money on copies. TBH yours is the first Positive comment I have seen ref the copies.

Thanks for taking the time to post. I will keep that in mind.

Mind you... I am only talking about some of the specifics... there are some out there with fake fiber (aesthetic only) or mini red dots that are garbage... the only decent versions that I've found are the newer models that replicate the Trijicon versions to the T... functional Fiber, Advanced RMR, Killflash, etc.

The only reason I suggest the copies, are for things like, you don't want to put a $1400 sight on a $500 weapon... even if you own one. I personally would rather use a replica on my 15-22 than put my real Trijicon or EOTech on my 15-22. It still gives me the feel of my AR, but without the possibility of something happening to my high-priced goodies.

There are a bunch out there that I wouldn't put on an Airsoft weapon, much less an actual rifle... like the replica EOTech models. Or the Aimpoint red dots... I would just as soon spend $100 on the Bushnell TRS-25 than buy a replica... or at least buy a repica and get a better mount for it.

I think too many shooter write them off with a "NEVER ON MY RIFLE" attitude. Even though, lets face it... its a .22lr with little more kick than a blowback airsoft rifle. None of us are traipsing through the mountains of Afghanistan with these... and none of us (I hope) are using the 15-22 to run the local drug lord out of their neighborhood.

Just to be clear, I would NOT recommend any of these replica optics on an actual AR platform. But the 15-22, definitely.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

I know you will all likely be stunned at what I have ended up with

I picked up an ACOG today as part of a batch of parts gained through a deal.

So have ended up with one of these for my lil Plinker. ( forward thing means I can use on other systems as well in the future) well that's my justification any way.

Don't moan at me too much. !!!
