I just recently purchased a 15-22 for my wife so she could come out shooting with me and was thinking about putting a red dot on there. But which one? Any help would be great!

Personally I'd have a hard time spending the same or more than the rifle cost on a red dot, especially when the effective range of .22 is considered. Quite a few people are using the Bushnell TRS-25. I got one a month or so back and really like it. Less than $100.00, large range of brightness settings, reliable...and it's light. If I had a real AR I'm sure I'd end up putting something more expensive on it.

Vortex has a nice red dot...I got an EOTECH on my AR but wouldn't spend $400+ to put one on my 15-22

Another vote for the Bushnell TRS-25. That is what we have on my son's rifle. On my .22lr AR, I have a Bushnell Trophy Multi-Reticle red dot that I picked up from the Cabela's bargain cave for $40.

Primary Arms also offers several $100 range red dots that are popular as well.

Mine wears a Vortex Strike Fire. It has also worn the TRS-25 and worked well. When I put a Leupold 3 X 9 on the MP 15, the Vortex moved to the 15-22. Being an "Old Guy", I am going to try the TRS on a 686, getting harder every day to see the target and open sights.:(

Those were my thoughts as well the expense doesn't seem to outweigh the benefit. I have two other ARs a colt crx-16 and a bushmaster m4 I mounted nikon p223 scopes on them and love them.

Primary Arms Micro, Vortex Sparc, the Bushnell mentioned above are probably the most popular mid range red dots. My Daniel Defense M4 and M&P 15-22 both sport a Sparc on top, like the 2 moa dot. Also have a Vortex 3x magnifier that gets used on occasion. My brother just picked up a Redfield Counterstrike, clear glass, sharp 4moa dot and the laser is nifty but its a little heavy and if you're running a front sight the laser is useless because it runs below the optic down the center of the rail. It barley clears the mount on his offset irons.

I have a TRS-25, but I just put a Burris Fast Fire III on my M&P 22 MOE and it has worked well. A little more money, but personally, I think it is worth the diff.

I wish to start out with the acknowledgement that I am new to the sport (< 5 years) and learning more every day. That said, I'm also a bit OCD, frugal, ............

This particular site is on sale for $29.99 and periodically will be $24.99. I put one on my 15-22 as part of my ongoing education and like it.

I like quality goods and I don't mind spending for the best when I feel I need the best. I also am not afraid of value price point items. Just my 2 cents.

Ar's and optics

Since the OP also has 223 Ar's & he could use the red dot sights on them as well, I will offer this....I instruct professionally and the AR is one of the platforms that I teach. I use four different optic's on mine - depending on what it is I am doing. I use the Aimpoint Micro T-1, the Eo Tech 552 for my red dots and an ACOG and a variable power tac scope. All of them have throw lever bases. I also have a purpose built 22rf AR that is identical to my "working" M-4's....I swap the two red dots from 22 to 223, 6.8, 458 Socom & 50 Beowulf as needed. Both the T-1 and the EO's are the " gold standard" in the tactical arena, and are "best of breed" in my book. If you want a red dot solely for the 22rf, then one of the less expensive options will probably suffice.

Thank you for all the advice this is my first time posting to this forum and I am truly impressed with all the feedback given. I guess I will leave it up to her since it is her gun but I think I am gonna get the eotech 512 to mount on on my bushmaster.

i wouldn't say that the 552 or 512 are the 'gold standard' as i have both and the EXPS models are far better in my book although they are all great and i'm an EO fan, not fan boy.
i have an EO, T1, S&B Short Dots, Weaver superslam 1.1-4 all FFP's and most are dedicated to a certain rifle although they are switchable with minimal POA/POI shift.
I had a Strike Fire bright dot that i liked well enough, but it got sold with the rifle i was selling. i would not discount it as a great scope for the 15-22, cheap enough, just get the 'Bright' not the red/green as they wash out in the sun where the 'Bright' does not.
i'm not an ACOG or Leupold fan, just because. anyway the stuff from PA is good, but i would not go any cheaper. just my .03 cents!

I have an EOTech on my main rifle and like it a lot, would I spend an other $400.00 or so to put one on my 15-22 "most definitely", I spent a lot of trigger time with my 15-22 and to make an easy transition what is the logical thing to do (use the same optic). But only if you are using it for training for less expensive alternative. If is only a plinking a less expensive option I'd just fine.

Add up all the money you have spent on optics before getting an Eotech and I bet for most it adds up more than what the Eotech cost. In the long run if you just go with the Eotech it will actually save you money.

you can find the 511's on sale pretty cheap sometimes, they take AA batts, but the newer EXPS models take up less real estate on the upper, are lighter and take a CR123 batt. controls are easier also IMO. a little more expensive than the latter, but IMO again, much better, and the above post is correct if you look at all your optics and the ones in the parts box that didn't fit/work for some reason!
