Epoxy madness...

... Is what happens when the IL looks back at me for the last time. I have bought one of the plugs for an N frame and it worked great, but I wanted to also plug the hole that the flag leaves in the J frame. Soooooo... epoxy sounded like as good an idea as any RTV and then I just got carried away.

Pics will be posted when the epoxy cures. We shall see if I have ruined it or not...

Wish my madness luck or wish me some Prozac. I'm not sure what I will need if I just ruined my favorite J...

Well the madness is over for now. I got over zealous with a stone and found out just how soft aluminum is... Ooops. These were the best I could do for now. But with just a touch up or two I think it's ripe for some Duracoat in the next stage of madness.

I wish I had be more careful and not marked the aluminum and also that I had gotten the last bit of where the flag was and filled it with epoxy to seal it up all the way.

Looks good, the test will be to see if the epoxy stays in place when the revolver is shot!

If it does pop loose someone feel free to ask me for it so they can make a mold for them and I'm sure we could all come up with a better method of securing it than my hope and crazy. I did degrease it first so I hope the epoxy gets a good enough hold of the aluminum. Maybe I will add just a touch of some crazy glue to it just to add to the hold some. I guess it would cost too much to try CNC'ing something like this.

I don't use any solvent that would eat epoxy. They make countertops and all kinds of things from epoxy. So I would think it will be fine. But then again ya neva know.

I think now the probability of cracked off chunks of epoxy in your action innerds far outweighs the possibility of an IL failure. You have taken a step in the wrong direction, IMHO. Someone in the classifieds sells pre-fit custom metal plugs for IL removal.

I have one of Bullseye's plugs and they are well made. This was an experiment, nothing more. The epoxy seems to have cured to a very hard rubber. I will post if it ends in failure.

I wish I had used JB Weld. It has a gray color to it. This is translucent.
