Equalizer - Thoughts? Comparisons?

I have the EZ9 and like it, easy to rack, easy to load and is single action hammer fired instead of striker fired. Has a decent trigger pull. The recoil seems less than my G19. The Equalizer would be better, maybe but it would remind me of Queen Latifa every time I went to shoot.

Why? Is it fat, loud, and talentless?

Long live the Queen

Queen Latifah has started looking a lot better…..but not quite as good as my Equalizer. Out of VP9, VP9-SK, g26, G19, Shield Plus, and P365, Lady EQ wins the competition.
Easily the most accurate of the group, extremely user-friendly, and…zero failures after more than 500 rounds. No negatives whatsoever!

I am hoping by New Years I can get a range comparison between the 9mm Shield (single stack), Shield 380 EZ, and Equalizer. I got one coming. We'll see what the holiday processing and shipping bring - hopefully not too many delays.
I actually have all three......the 9mm shield and the equalizer feel almost the same. The biggest differences are the stippling on the EQ is a smidge more agressive, and my EQ trigger has verrrrry little slack (take up I guess they call it.) You didn't mention if the 9 is an EZ; mine is.

About the 380....I have a couple of bersas including the cc, and the smith is more comfortable than either of them. Can't feel the recoil, shoots straighter than I can. I would carry it EDC except its a tad bulkier and significantly longer than the Bersa 380cc.

Here you go...first one shows the safety before being depressed, the second is fully depressed.

Like I mentioned before, I've never had a problem with the original or the NDZ safety. My wife would get 1 or 2 failures to fire with each mag with the original, none with the NDZ safety.
Hello sorry for reviving an old thread I just had a question about your grip safety...

I have installed the NDZ performance grip safety and have noticed that when doing trigger rest while dry firing (racking slide-pulling trigger- racking the slide again while trigger is depressed) the slide seems to get stuck until I let the grip safety release. This does not occur with the original grip safety at all. I reached out to NDZ and they are saying that this issue can not be replicated but I just can't imagine why it is doing this ONLY with the NDZ safety installed. Have you experienced this issue at all?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled each safety multiple times and every time the original one works great, and the NDZ one will not perform trigger rest properly... I even exchanged the NDZ safety for a new one and it still does this.

The Equalizer grip safety does two things, it lifts the trigger bar allowing it to engage the sear when the trigger is pulled; and it raises the firing pin plunger lever that pushes the firing pin block up so the firing pin can move forward. Try taking the slide off and watch what happens when you squeeze the grip safety.

I suspect your NDZ grip safety is lifting the firing pin plunger lever higher than normal and hanging up the slide at the firing pin block or something else on the underside of the slide. The manual warns against depressing the grip safety while removing or installing the slide due to firing pin lever interference.

I dry fire my Equalizer (with the stock grip safety) a lot and have never experienced your problem.

The Equalizer is my first S&W semiauto. I have a comparably sized Taurus 92c which I like very much, and a Ruger Security 380. All three of them fit my small hand. The Equalizer is very easy to rack like the Ruger. I think I am going to like the Equalizer as much as the 92c and the Ruger. The S&W may become my handiest home defense pistol because of the ease in chambering a load. Of course, I still have that big Taurus PT92 as a backup to everything.
