Many years ago I could tie most all of these. (Boy Scouts and stuff) Some I never heard of.

Now maybe 3 or 4 of them
Just not tying things up much any more

Being a boater and a construction worker I found that knowing about 8 Knots well you could do most anything with just them.

Sure more knowledge is always good, but being practical goes a long ways.

A few basic knots will get a lot done. What I use mostly:
Square knot. Slippery square knot for tying shoes! Just make sure you are finishing the knot square, not granny style, less likely to untie.
Bowline, occasionally a bowline on a bight
Prusik knot
Cleat hitch
Slippery truckers hitch
Figure eight stopper knot
Half hitches

For bungee cord the zeppelin bend and angler's loop are secure.

I’ve got an app on my cellphone that lists all the knots with step by step instructions about tying them.

Off the top of my head, I might know 3 or four of them.

Taut-line hitch. Basically, a couple of half-hitches with an additional hitch above the knot. This hitch allows you to tighten a rope, say to a tent-line, by slipping it up and it will not sag, or to tighten a rope over a trailer or such. Invaluable. Life Scout, discovered girls before the Eagle arrived

My dads' specialty was pop knots.

I order to complete my apprenticeship and become a journeyman Ironworker, I had to know a bunch of knots, how to splice rope, and reeve blocks. I think I only used about 8 or 10 knots in the field. You could always tell when someone had to take the test, they would carry a short piece of line and practice knots whenever they had a chance. I would really have to study and practice to tie some of them again.

My career as a Rigger. I had to learn the knots too.......Would amaze people when rigging a straight piece of 20 ft seamless pipe with knots and half hitches to land it in a vertical setting to be welded or such. Retired I still use knots, hitches and rigging here on my farm.......One shackle tip for use when pulling or rigging......When you tighten the shackle pin before use.......Tighten hand tight and back it off 3/4 of a turn.......Won't effect the strength, But after the pull you can loosen it with fingers instead of having to get a wrench or spud..........I really liked butt splices/eye splices/ splicing 2 ropes together. On our site we only used 1/2 in dia nylon sail makers rope. Thanks for bringing back a lot of memories.

When I first went in to the Navy to make Seaman(E3) you had to tie a lot of knots....
Learned most of them as Boy Scout.
